1 Community Flakka Action Plan May 2015
2 Mission To collaborate with all key community stakeholders to create a unified outreach plan that promotes the health and safety of Broward County. Guiding Principles The key community stakeholders recognize the significance of the increasing rate of synthetic drug use in. At this time, county hospitals are reporting 2-3 admissions for flakka each day. is widely believed to be ground zero for this emerging drug trend. Consequently, the Commission on Substance Abuse, Broward Addiction Recovery Center and the Broward Sheriff s Office initiated an integrated collaborative community approach. With the advancement of community prevention, treatment and wellness as the community s focus, extensive work has been done to address the increasing rates of synthetic drugs by unifying branches of the community to provide wide-spread outreach and education to all the districts of. The Commission launched a Flakka Action Team to assess where the community was at in addressing the deadly street drug, Flakka and to unify the outreach efforts of key community stakeholders. Plan Develoent This Community Flakka Action Plan was developed through a methodical process of assessment and strategy. The Commission facilitated a process to collect information on our community partner s available resources and ongoing and planned activities to address the rise of synthetic drug use in. The results of the assessment were then analyzed to identify gaps in outreach services and to identify the needs in the community, to create one unified plan. Broward Sheriff s Office created a calendar of outreach events to guide and inform of activities in the community aimed to educate and prevent further harm from flakka. The key community stakeholders include Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, Broward Addiction Recovery Center, The United Way Commission on Substance Abuse, Broward Sheriff s Office, Lauderdale Police Department, School Board, Drug Court, Hospitals of and the Medical Association. Target Population This Community Flakka Action Plan is focused on both youth and adults within. The target population is inclusive of all youth and adults in, including those in at-risk, vulnerable, and special needs groups such as the homeless, veterans and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered (LGBT) persons.
