The installation, starting up, and servicing of heating, ventilating, and airconditioning equipment can be hazardous and requires specific knowledge and training. Improperly installed, adjusted or altered equipment by an unqualified person could result in death or serious injury. Cautions are designed to alert personnel to hazardous situations that could result in personal injury, while notices indicate a situation that could result in equipment or property-damage-only accidents. Your personal safety and the proper operation of this machine depend upon the strict observance of these precautions. Read this manual thoroughly before operating or servicing this unit. Read these carefully: WARNING CAUTIONs NOTICE: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. Indicates a situation that could result in equipment or property-damage only Important Environmental Concerns! Scientific research has shown that certain man-made chemicals can affect the earth s naturally occurring stratospheric ozone layer when released to the atmosphere. In particular, several of the identified chemicals that may affect the ozone layer are refrigerants that contain Chlorine, Fluorine and Carbon (CFCs) and those containing Hydrogen, Chlorine, Fluorine and Carbon (HCFCs). Not all refrigerants containing these compounds have the same potential impact to the environment.trane advocates the responsible handling of all refrigerants-including industry replacements for CFCs such as HCFCs and HFCs. Responsible Refrigerant Practices! Trane believes that responsible refrigerant practices are important to the environment, our customers, and the air conditioning industry. All technicians who handle refrigerants must be certified. The Federal Clean Air Act (Section 608) sets forth the requirements for handling, reclaiming, recovering and recycling of certain refrigerants and the equipment that is used in these service procedures. In addition, some states or municipalities may have additional requirements that must also be adhered to for responsible management ofrefrigerants. Know the applicable laws and follow them WARNING Proper Field Wiring and Grounding Required! All field wiring MUST be performed by qualified personnel. Improperly installed and grounded field wiring poses FIRE and ELECTROCUTION hazards. To avoid these hazards, you MUST follow requirements for field wiring installation and grounding as described in NEC and your local/state electrical codes. Failure to follow code could result in death or serious injury. WARNING Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required! Installing/servicing this unit could result in exposure to electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards. Before installing/servicing this unit, technicians MUST put on all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) recommended for the work being undertaken. ALWAYS refer to appropriate MSDS sheets and OSHA guidelines for proper PPE. When working with or around hazardous chemicals, ALWAYS refer to the appropriate MSDS sheets and OSHA guidelines for information on allowable personal exposure levels, proper respiratory protection and handling recommendations. If there is a risk of arc or flash, technicians MUST put on all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with NFPA 70E or other country-specific requirements for arc flash protection, PRIOR to servicing the unit. Failure to follow recommendations could result in death or serious injury. WARNING Hazardous Voltage! Disconnect all electric power, including remote disconnects before servicing. Follow proper lockout/ tagout procedures to ensure the power can not be inadvertently energized. Failure to disconnect power before servicing could result in death or serious injury. NOTICE: Use Copper Conductors Only! Unit terminals are not designed to accept other type conductors. About this Manual This manual provides specific installation instructions for the Indeeco electric heat coil designed specifically for Trane Midrange products, models SCWJ and SCRJ. Note: This is a field-installed option designed specifically fortrane Midrange models SCWJ and SCRJ. Order directly from Indeeco by calling Note: This document is customer property and must be retained for use by maintenance personnel. Introduction NOTICE: Heaters are tested for high limit cut-outs per values listed in Table 1, p. 7. Any other combination of airflow and kw could result in heater failure or electric short. This Indeeco heater is designed for installation in the Midrange Self-Contained Models SCWJ and SCRJ. Note: Note:This electric heater cannot be used with sidemounted fan applications. 1. Reference Table 1, p. 7 to verify the correct heater for desired performance. 2. Reference heater layout drawing for specific component locations. 3. For control and power wire connections, reference the wiring diagrams provided by Indeeco inside of the control panel or at the back of this manual. 5 Reference proper receiving instructions and inspection procedure in the Midrange Self-Contained Installation, Operation and Maintenance manual, PKG-SVX14*-EN. Install heaters directly below the fan section in the area normally occupied by the hot water or steam coil. Follow this procedure to properly install the electric heater. Procedure 1. Uncrate the heater and look for the miscellaneous parts placed inside the heater packaging. (Six bolts size M5 x 20mm and washers). 2. Verify heater part number is correct based on Table 1, p. 7 provided in this document. Reference voltage, kw, heat stages, etc. 3. Remove front panel labeled (03) and side panel labeled (01). Remove the front and side access panels, 01 and 02, to install the heater. 4. Remove the heater control box cover and verify wire (AWG) size requirement based on the schematic located under the control box cover. 5. Slide the heater into the front section of the unit where the (03) panel was removed. 6. Position the heater over the six (6) mounting holes located inside the unit. 7. Fasten the heater to the unit by utilizing the six mounting bolts and washers provided with the heater. 8. From the inside of the unit mark the holes for the incoming power on the side panel labeled (02). 9. Remove the (02) panel and drill holes for power and control wires. The heater comes with (3) knockouts sized for connectors 3/4 to Reinstall the (02) panel and route power wires to the heater per the schematic. Note: All wiring must comply with local code and National Electric Code (NEC) requirements. Note: Power wiring installer must supply a separate power source with a disconnect switch installed within sight of the unit. PKG-SVN11B-EN 5
