3 Project Motivation & introduction Sean s Sleeping Patterns during this project
4 Problem the project tackles Use of computers, cell-phones and televisions at higher levels was associated with delayed sleep/wake schedules and wake lag, potentially impairing health and educational outcomes. In addressing pre-bedtime behaviour in adolescents, SleepBeta was designed to target the main issues of sleep deprivation in adolescents and provide ways to improve sleep. (2014) Adolescent Sleep Patterns and Night-Time Technology Use
5 Project Motivation & introduction Pre-bedtime behaviors are important to understand, as they are modifiable factors that may be relevant in addressing sleep problems in adolescents. Over 70% of adolescents are reported to use 2 or more electronic devices in their bedroom at night. Use of devices in bed a few nights per week or more was 46.8% cellphone, 38.5% computer, 23.2% TV, and 15.8% radio. Every night computer use was associated with short weekday sleep duration, and every night cellphone use was associated with wake lag (waking later on weekends). 22 Field study results Post Study interview findings Rarely adolescents are enthusiastic about their sleep. In our case, one participant was interested and actively made changes to their lifestyle. Cards used in card sorting affected results slightly. Based on our results we came to the conclusion that adolescents don t care enough about sleep to actively improve it.
23 Conclusion Few errors/bugs. Field study results showed to move in a direction away from adolescents. Hand over the project to product creator. Advised changes to future studies based on our results.
