15 CHANGES IN HEALTH FACTORS We did better here Adult Smoking: Percent of adults that report smoking >= 100 cigarettes and currently smoking 2012 = 16% 2013 = 15% But worse here Children in poverty: Percent of children under age 18 in poverty 2012 = 16% 2013 = 19% 15
16 NEW HEALTH FACTORS MEASURED Drinking Water Safety: Percentage of population exposed to water exceeding a violation limit during the past year 2013 = 0% (Illinois: 3%) Dentists: Ratio of population to dentists 2013 = 1,930:1 (Illinois=1,630:1) 16
17 WHAT THE DATA TELLS US The County Health Rankings continue to show us that where we live matters to our health. The Rankings serve as an easy-to-use health snapshot of the many factors that influence health and help community leaders identify areas where improvement is needed. Improving health is everyone s business. 17
18 TAKING ACTION IN OUR COUNTY Community Health Improvement Plan 1. Reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke 2. Increase access to and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables 3. Increase the proportion of residents of all ages who receive appropriate, evidence-based clinical preventive services 4. Institute complete streets types of policies to ensure that roadways are designed and operated with all users in mind 5. Increase the proportion of children who have high-quality early developmental support, especially in child care and education. 18
