4 11. Toxicological Information - Continued Dermal Toxicity Study: 3 month rat - Reduced body weight was observed at the 1000 mg/kg/day dosage level. Other than slight dermal irritation, there were no clinical signs of toxicity noted in treated animals. Chronic/Carcinogenicity - Studies done using pure DEET. CHRONIC: 1 Year feeding (dog) - 100mg/kg/day (NOEL) and 400 mg/kg/day clear effects levels were determined. There was no specific target organ toxicity attributed to treatment with DEET. CARCINOGENICITY: 24 Month (albino rat) - No test article related carcinogenic effects were observed. Teratogenicity (Birth Defects) - The following studies were done using pure DEET. TERATOGENICITY: (rabbit) mg/kg/day clear effect level and 100 mg/kg/day (NOEL) for maternal toxicity. Treatment had not effect on the gestional parameters or the incidences of variations or malformations. Reproductive Effects - Study done using pure DEET. REPRODUCTION: 2 Generation (rat) - less or equal 2000 ppm clear effect level and 500 ppm (NOEL) were determined for parental and neonatal toxicity. Treatment had not effect on any reproductive parameters. Neurotoxicity - Results using pure DEET: NEUROTOXICITY: (rat) - Acute oral exposure and multigenerational exposure to DEET showed no signs of neurotoxicity.
