Dear Colleagues, Please find enclosed your latest weight management update. Weight Watchers took over the contract for Tier 2 weight management in October 216. The attached tables and graph show referrals into the service by practice, associated morbidity, age, and gender up to February 218. Whilst the reduction in average BMI appears very modest it hides the fact that some individuals lost significant amounts of weight. It also hides the fact that relatively small amounts of weight loss have significant physiological benefits. Weight Watchers are as much about healthy eating as about weight loss and so people going through this programme, our patients, will be healthier at the end of it! Weight Watchers are keen to support GP Practices to improve referrals and uptake to the service without adding any extra time or burden onto your already busy schedules and are offering support via the following methods: Individual GP Practice visits Holding slimming groups at GP Practices Sending letters to all patients with a BMI >3 Sending texts to all patients with a BMI>3 Sending s to all patients with a BMI>3 So far, The Friarsgate Practice, Bursledon Surgery and St Mary s Surgery have participated in the letter drop exercise, with a number of other GP practices accepting the offer of support and due to roll-out shortly. Early indications suggest the uptake rate is at least 1%. The Friarsgate Practice has also set up an in-house slimming group enrolling 78 patients by week 2! The referral forms can be printed from DXS. Men clearly need more encouragement in this regard and we will be talking to the service about how it can be made more attractive to men.
