What is the Issue? (i) Whether or not a Christian should eat halal food products. (ii) Whether or not this is food offered to idols. 15
What saith the Scriptures? To answer that we first need to know what Halal is. 16
Halal (حالل) means lawful or legal) is an Arabic term designating any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic Law. It is the opposite of haraam. 17
Halal (حالل) means lawful or legal) is an Arabic term designating any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic Law. It is the opposite of haraam. The term is widely used to designate food seen as permissible according to Islamic.(الشريعة اإلسالمية (Sharia, Law 18
In Arabic-speaking countries, the term is used to describe anything permissible under Islamic law, in contrast to haraam, that which is forbidden. 19
In Arabic-speaking countries, the term is used to describe anything permissible under Islamic law, in contrast to haraam, that which is forbidden. This includes human behaviour, speech communication, clothing, conduct, manner and dietary laws. 20
In non-arabic-speaking countries, the term is most commonly used in the narrower context of just Muslim dietary laws, especially where meat and poultry are concerned, though it can be used for the more general meaning, as well. 21
Islam has laws regarding which foods can and cannot be eaten and also on the proper method of slaughtering an animal for consumption, known as dhabihah. 22
However if there is no other food available then a Muslim is allowed to eat non-halal food. 23
However if there is no other food available then a Muslim is allowed to eat non-halal food. Surah 2:173 states: If one is forced because there is no other choice, neither craving nor transgressing, there is no sin in him. Indeed, Allah is forgiving, merciful 24
Explicitly forbidden substances 25
Explicitly forbidden substances A variety of substances are considered as harmful (haraam) for humans to consume and, therefore, forbidden as per various Quranic verses: 26
Pork meat (i.e., flesh of pig) [Qur'an 2:173]. Blood [Qur'an 2:173]. All carnivores and birds of prey. Animals slaughtered in the name of anyone but Allah. The fish must die out of water and because of natural suffocation in the free air, on the ground or on the deck of the fishing boat. Otherwise, it's not halal. 32

Dhabiha: Method of slaughter This method of slaughtering animals consists of a swift, deep incision with a sharp knife on the neck, cutting the jugular veins and carotid arteries of both sides but leaving the spinal cord intact. 37

Qur'an 2:173 He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful. 47
Qur'an 5:3 Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah; that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear Me. This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. 48
From this it would seem that when the animal is slaughtered it is slaughtered in giving thanks to Allah for supplying the food to eat. 49
From this it would seem that when the animal is slaughtered it is slaughtered in giving thanks to Allah for supplying the food to eat. Is this food offered to idols? Not an idol as such but a false god. Since there is no other God but God the answer is yes. 50
Acts 21:25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. 51
1 Corinthians 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. 24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth. 25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake: 26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof. 52
1 Corinthians 10:27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake. 28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof: 29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? 53
1 Corinthians 10:30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? 31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: 54
1 Corinthians 10:33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. 55
