Tonight s Class Gut & Psychology Syndrome
What is Gut & Psychology Syndrome? Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAP Syndrome or GAPS) is a condition, which establishes a connection between the functions of the digestive system and the brain. This term was created by Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride, MD, MMedSci (neurology), MMedSci (human nutrition) in 2004 after working with hundreds of children and adults with neurological and psychiatric conditions.
Conditions that Can Be Improved or Recovered Using the GAPS Protocol Autism spectrum disorder, hyperactivity and attention deficit, dyslexia, dyspraxia, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders and many other neuro-psychological and psychiatric problems. Seizures, digestive disorders, allergies, skin conditions, osteo-arthritis, candida, and autoimmune conditions.
One Mom s Story..
The Basics of Gaps The Nutritional Program for Gut And Psychology Syndrome 1. Diet. GAPS conditions are essentially digestive disorders. The digestive system is a long tube; what you fill that tube with has a direct effect on its wellbeing. That is why the diet is the most important and the number one treatment. Everything else takes a second place. 2. Supplementation. 3. Detoxification and life-style changes. Please, read the GAPS book for full information on treatment.
Implementing the GAPS Diet 1. Introduction Diet Broths and Meats Additional Vegetables Introduction of Dairy Fermented Foods 2. The Full GAPS Diet with the typical menu The patient needs to carry on completely avoiding starches and sugar for two years at least. It means avoiding all grains, sugar, potatoes, parsnips, yams, sweet potato and anything made out of them. The flour in your cooking and baking can be replaced with ground almonds (or any other nuts or sunflower or pumpkin seeds ground into flour). In about years you may be able to introduce new potatoes, fermented buckwheat, millet and quinoa, starting from very small amounts and observing any reaction. Wheat, sugar, processed foods and all additives will have to be out of the diet for much longer.
Implementing the GAPS Diet A Family s Story
Our Gut & Psychology Class Class will start 3/29 and run for six weeks. We will start with the Intro diet and run through the complete program learning about each phase. Each class will include a cooking class with recipes for the particular phase of the diet being studied. Cost is $20 for six lessons which covers basic expenses.
References and Information Posted on our meetup site is a 16 page document outlining the GAPS diet including recipes. is Dr. Natasha s website is the US sales site for the GAPS diet book, also the GAPS Guide and a GAPS cookbook. All three books are recommended.
