Recent studies show Obesity is associated with an increased risk of death, particularly in adults younger than age 65 years? 1-5 In fact, obesity has been shown to reduce life expectancy by 6 to 20 years depending on age and race. 3,6 The leading causes of death in persons who are obese are ischemic heart disease, diabetes, respiratory diseases and cancer such as liver, kidney, breast, endometrial, prostate, and colon. 4 How many Americans are struggling with overweight and obesity? Obesity means that you have too much body fat and is defined as having a body mass index (BMI) above 30. Taking in more calories than you burn can lead to weight gain, and ultimately, obesity. 7 Success Stories I ve sadly run into so many weight loss professionals who are shaming, condescending, insulting, and even have prejudices against people with weight problems.
