Matthews, MD is an Associate Professor and Division Director for Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. Dr. Matthews joined the Department in July, She attended medical school at University of Virginia and completed her residency at the Medical College of Virginia. She joined the faculty there and worked closely with Glen Hurt, MD, developing her skills in pelvic surgery and urogynecology. She is recognized internationally for her expertise in robotic and vaginal surgery and is an invited participant in many international urogynecology meetings. On the national level, she serves as the Chair of the AUGS Foundation, Chair of the Regional Symposium Subcommittee of IUGA, and as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has a particular interest in fecal incontinence, urogenital fistulae, and anal sphincter injury. Under her leadership as Division Director, UNC has opened two Pelvic Floor Centers for the multidisciplinary care of women with pelvic floor disorders. In addition, she coordinates a specialty perineal clinic for the evaluation and management of obstetric perineal trauma. Dr. Matthews has extensive research experience and is committed to multidisciplinary, collaborative research in the Female Pelvic Medicine subspecialty. She is dedicated to the education of residents and fellows and last year was awarded the UNC APGO departmental teaching award. AnnaMarie Connolly, MD is a Full Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and serves as the current FPMRS Fellowship Program Director, Director of the Education Division for the Department of OB/GYN,and is Residency Program Director for OB/GYN. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. Dr Connolly completed her fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the University of North Carolina. She has expertise in surgical procedures for incontinence, prolapse, and fistula repair. Dr. Connolly s extensive clinical experience covers all aspects of urogynecologic and prolapse evaluation and treatment, and includes a thorough knowledge of and familiarity with multi-channel urodynamics with fluoroscopy as well as gynecologic ultrasound including anal sphincter ultrasonography. She has significant experience with conservative treatments of pelvic floor disorders such as biofeedback with electrical stimulation, posterior tibial nerve stimulation, pessary management, and transurethral collagen injections. Her areas of research include nationally recognized work in medical education as well as the effects of pregnancy and childbirth on the pelvic floor, particularly on voiding function and anal sphincteric integrity after delivery. Dr. Connolly s commitment to education has also been recognized by the School of Medicine and the University. For the past 12 years, she has served as the Director of the UNC-CH Teaching Scholars Program for the UNC School of Medicine. On the national level, she serves as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Resident Review Committee for OB/GYN and FPMRS, the Board of the Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO), is the Chair of the AUGS Education Sub-Committee, and is on the faculty of the annual CREOG Residents As Teachers and Leaders Conference.

2 Elizabeth Geller, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and Associate Fellowship Program Director. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. Dr Geller completed her fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in She has established an expertise in robotic and minimally invasive surgery and is the Education Chair for the UNC Computer and Robotic Enhanced Surgery (CARES) Center. She has developed and maintains a formal training curriculum for the Department s residents and fellows in robotic surgical training. She is a founding member of the National Robotics Residency Training Network. She also directs the Sacral Neuromodulation Program for our Division. Her leadership roles include membership on the AUGS Research Committee. She has served as an AUGS and an AAGL Scientific Session Moderator on several occasions. She serves as the OB/GYN Department representative for the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) for UNC Hospitals. She also served as Chief Administrative Resident as well as ACOG Section Chair during her residency at the University of California at Irvine and Lead Fellow for the AUGS Fellows Task Force within the American Urogynecological Society. Her teaching excellence is demonstrated by receiving the Berlex Best Teaching Resident Award at UC-Irvine and the Fellows Teaching Award at UNC. Dr Geller is Course Director for two medical school courses in women s health. Her research interests include short-term and long-term outcomes with robotic pelvic reconstructive surgery, clinical outcomes associated with a minimally invasive approach to anti-incontinence surgery, pelvic floor outcomes and screening measures for anal sphincter trauma with vaginal and cesarean delivery, and the cognitive effects of anticholinergics for overactive bladder. She is currently involved in four active research grants, serving as PI for two of these: Effect of Anticholinergics on Cognitive Function in the Elderly - American Urogynecology Society Foundation Faculty Research Award and the Intuitive Surgical Clinical Robotic Fellowship Training Grant. She has received eight previous research grants. Dr Geller served as the Division Research Director for the past three years and will take over as the Fellowship Program Director this July. Mary L. Jannelli, MD is an Associate Professor in the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Jannelli completed her fellowship at UNC and joined the faculty in Her research interests include outcome measures for operative procedures and parameters in evaluating lower GI dysfunctions. Dr. Jannelli has been the site principal investigator as well as co-investigator for several clinical trials for the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction. She serves as an active mentor to fellows in both research, teaching, and clinical activity. Dr. Jannelli is recognized by the Department for her clinical administrative leadership skills and serves as the Medical Director of the UNC Pelvic Health Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The fellows regularly recognize Dr. Jannelli for her excellence in teaching both in the outpatient and inpatient settings. Ellen C. Wells, MD is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Past President for the N.C. Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, and previous Chief of the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr Wells joined the faculty at UNC in 1993 and lead the development of one of the earliest Divisions of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, which has seen dramatic and consistent growth in research, clinical, diagnostic and surgical care volume during her tenure as Division Chief of over 12 years. Under her leadership the Division became the sixth fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery to be recognized by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in The fellowship has subsequently been jointly accredited by the American Board of Urology under the new title: Female Pelvic Medicine and

3 Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Wells has extensive clinical knowledge and research experience in female pelvic floor disorders including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and lower GI dysfunction. She has specific expertise in surgical techniques, including vaginal and abdominal reconstructive surgeries, fistula repairs, and reconstructive surgeries for congenital genitourinary anomalies. Her research has been supported by external funding from a number of sources including NIH and the pharmaceutical industry. She was a co-investigator and principal gynecologist for the UNC site of the NIH sponsored Women s Health Initiative for 10 years and a coinvestigator at the UNC site of the Pelvic Floor Disorders Network for 5 years. Other previous research areas include trials in medical management of incontinence, efficacy of biofeedback therapy, hormonal influences in post-menopausal women, and effects of childbirth and parturition on the pelvic floor. Current interest includes outcome measures for efficacy of prolapse surgeries, physical activities in women undergoing and after prolapse surgery, and alternative treatments for overactive bladder. Jennifer M. Wu, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Director of Research in the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. She completed a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of North Carolina at in During fellowship she completed the NIH T32 Triangle Clinical Research Fellowship in Reproductive Health and received her Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology at the UNC School of Public Health. She then served on the faculty at Duke University from 2007 to 2013, when she returned to UNC. As an independent clinician-scientist, she has been funded by a NICHD T-32, the BIRCWH K12, and now a NICHD K23 to evaluate the genetic etiology of prolapse as well as NIA R03 on the pharmacogenetic predictors of the response to anticholinergic medications. She has established interdisciplinary collaborations and currently works with investigators in Epidemiology, Genetic Epidemiology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Urology and Pharmacogenomics. She is also committed to mentoring trainees and has a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications and grant funding for mentored projects with fellows. At a national level, she serves on the AUGS Guidelines Committee and is an NIH study section member. Kristy Borawski, M.D is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Urology. She completed her Residency and Fellowship at Duke University in Durham in She joined the UNC Division of Urology as an Assistant Professor and has served as the Director of Urodynamics since She has expertise in Female Urology, Reconstructive Urology, and Neurourology. She provides valuable mentoring to our fellows in Neurourology, video urodynamics, and operative cystoscopy and reconstructive surgery. William Whitehead, Ph.D. is a Full Professor of Medicine with a joint appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Whitehead is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in Gastrointestinal. Dr. Whitehead is a career investigator who has been continuously funded by the NIH since He was supported by a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) research scientist award for 22 years and has received research support from NIDDK, NICHD, NIA, NINR, and NIMH. He has received 29 NIH grants (19 as principal investigator, 10 as coinvestigator) Dr. Whitehead has served as a site Co-Principle Investigator to the Pelvic Floor Disorders Network. He is coordinator of the GI Motility Procedures laboratory and serves as an active research mentor to our fellows. He has a primary interest in

4 defecatory dysfunction and fecal incontinence, and behavioral and biofeedback therapy for functional gastrointestinal disorders. His expertise includes anal manometry and anorectal biofeedback therapy. He actively participates in the monthly Pelvic Floor Disorders Conferences and co-authors several manuscripts with our fellows each year. Raj S. Pruthi, MD is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of Urology and Urologic Oncology at UNC. He also serves as disease group leader for the Genitourinary Oncology Program at the NIH-sponsored Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at UNC. He has contributed over 100 peer review publications in these areas. Additional interests include minimally-invasive treatments for urologic malignancies, such as laparoscopic and robotic approaches, and evaluation of their role in urologic oncology. Basic science research interests include the study of inflammatory pathways in the development and treatment of urologic cancers. Dr. Pruthi is currently a member of the American Urologic Association s Committee for Guidelines on the Management of Non-muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer, the American College of Surgeons Advisory Panel for Urology, and the Board of Directors for the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association. Timothy Sadiq, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery and is a certified Colorectal Surgeon having completed his Fellowship at The Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts. He joined the UNC Colorectal Surgical Division in He is boardcertified in General Surgery in 2007 and Colorectal Surgery in He completed his Surgical Residency at UNC and served in the capacity of Administrative Chief Resident. His interests include complex anorectal disorders, transplantation and stem cell research. He has received several awards and has served on Medical Student Education and Organ Donation Initiative Committees. Dan Clarke-Pearson, MD (Professor, Department Chair), Paola Gehrig, MD (Professor, Division Director), Linda Van Le, MD (Professor), John Soper, MD (Professor) and John Boggess, MD (Professor) of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of OB/GYN. Drs. Clarke-Pearson, Gehrig, Van Le, Soper, and Boggess have extensive experience in complex pelvic surgery as well as expertise in complex pelvic reconstruction, gastrointestinal, and genital-urinary procedures. Areas of expertise include large and small bowel procedures, ureteral anastomosis and reimplantation, and urinary diversion procedures including extensive robotic expertise. They are also nationally recognized researchers, educators, and mentors in the subspecialty of Gynecologic Oncology and have served as exceptionally strong supporters of the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship program both at the local and national levels. Wendy R. Brewster, MD, PhD is the Director of the Center for Women s Health Research and an Associate Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. The mission of the CWHR is to improve the health of women through multidisciplinary research, education and advocacy through the development of researchers and community partnership. Dr. Brewster is also an Associate Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health. Dr. Brewster is a population scientist with a research interest in early detection and prevention of gynecologic malignancies. Dr. Brewster is a clinically active member of the Gynecologic Oncology Division in the Department of Obstetrics. Dr. Brewster completed her Oncology Fellowship and PhD with an emphasis in cancer epidemiology at the University of California at Irvine.

5 John Thorp, MD is a Professor in the Department of OB/GYN, certified in Maternal Fetal Medicine, and is the Director of the Division of Women s Primary Care. He has particular expertise and interest in the relationship amongst pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum time period. These research interests focus on both immediate as well as long-term outcomes related to urinary, fecal, and pelvic floor dysfunction. He is recognized nationally and internationally for his excellence in clinical research and has many active research roles serving as, among many other research leadership roles, as the UNC site Principle Investigator to the Maternal Fetal Medicine Network. Dr. Thorp is also an educational leader within the department and has received the Resident Teaching Award three times. He is the Deputy Director of the Center for Women's Health Research. Matthew Siedhoff, MD, MSCR is an Assistant Professor in the Department of OB/GYN and Director for the Division of Advanced Laparoscopy and Pelvic Pain. Dr. Siedhoff is nationally and internationally recognized for his work in pelvic pain and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. He directs the Fibroid Care and Pelvic Pain clinics, in which our fellows rotate. The Pelvic Pain clinic provides consultation for patients from across the state with a broad range of problems addressed from a gastrointestinal, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, psychologic, gynecologic, and gynecologic surgery perspective. Dr. Siedhoff's clinical and research experience add tremendous depth and diversity to the Fellowship program with his expertise in pain evaluation and management, as well as laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Denniz Zolnoun, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor in the Division of Advanced Laproscopy and Pelvic Pain. She specializes in vulvodynia, neurosensory disorders, and chronic pelvic pain. She completed her fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Pelvic Pain at UNC in 2001 and an MPH in Health Care and Prevention in 2001 at the UNC School of Public Health. She is the Director of the Vulvodynia Clinic and the Director of Research for her Division. She is a national leader in the field of vulvodynia and pelvic pain, and has received significant NIH funding. Together with Dr. Geller she runs a monthly Mesh Pain Clinic where patients received multi-disciplinary care for complications of mesh surgery. Our fellows rotate with her both in her own clinics and in the Mesh Pain Clinic. Other UNC faculty directly involved in FPMRS fellowship training: James F.
