1 FISCAL YEAR 2017 ANNUAL REPORT In FY2017, the Agency faced sweeping changes as we changed our name from Gratiot County Community Mental Health to Gratiot Integrated Health Network. The branding efforts were made to reflect an expansion of our services and the increasingly integrated approach to the way we deliver care. During the summer of 2017, we started the remodeling of a satellite office in St. Louis, that will integrate physical and behavioral health services, along with space for an Autism Center. We continue to have clinicians engrained in the fabric of the community with a presence in the Schools, Court System, Emergency Department, Child Advocacy, and Physical Health Care settings. 2 OCTOBER 2016 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2017 YOUR PARTNER IN WELLNESS VOTER REGISTRATION October 2016 VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE This year Gratiot Integrated Health Network hosted a voter registration drive. Staff assisted individuals in registering to vote, had sample ballots on hand to view, and provided information about the candidates and their platforms. Voter registration forms were also available at the front desk for individuals to take. Every U.S. citizen age 18 or older has the right to vote. Our state requires voters to be residents of Michigan and registered to vote in their city of residence. They must also have either personal identification or they must sign an affidavit stating they are not in possession of any type of personal identification but that they are who they claim to be. The voter registration drive was a huge success. We were able to register many individuals and provided them with information on their voter rights. GAME DAY CHALLENGE November 2016 CHILD ADVOCACY GAME DAY CHALLENGE FUNDRAISER Each year our staff participate in several fundraisers to help support other local community organizations. This fall Gratiot Integrated Health Network raised funds to help support Child Advocacy in their mission to improve the welfare of children and their families through education, training, and support for the prevention of substance abuse, and child abuse and neglect. Out of the all of the local businesses and organizations who raised money, our very own Gratiot Integrated Health Network staff raised the most bringing home the trophy.

3 MEET RUDI December 2016 NEW ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS SYSTEM In December, our agency went through a major transition when we switched to a new electronic medical records system that is refer to as RUDI. The implementation of RUDI has strengthened our ability to monitor service trends and ensure that we are making data driven decisions about how to best serve our consumers. RUDI has expanded our Utilization Management capabilities by providing a platform to launch standard benefit packages, monitor medical necessity, and review service utilization across the entire agency. Functions that historically took multiple programs to complete are now accomplished within a single system. COMMUNITY EVENTS January 2016 FAMILY FAIR AND CARNIVAL Our agency participates in several community education events throughout the year in an effort to connect with our community and inform them of the services that are available at our agency. In January, we attended the Child Advocacy Family Fair and Carnival. Each year approximately five hundred people attend this free family friendly fair sponsored by Child Advocacy. This is one of many events that we attend; others include the Wellness and Business Expo, DHHS Back-to-School event, Gratiot County Fair for Youth Kids Day, Health and Wellness Fair at Masonic, just to name a few. NEW AGENCY NAME February 2017 NAME CHANGE We have changed our name to Gratiot Integrated Health Network to reflect an expansion of our services and the increasingly integrated approach to the way we deliver care. The transition is great news for our consumers and the community alike. Gratiot Integrated Health Network will continue to offer the same services and support for those with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, children with serious emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorders and substance use disorders to better serve the community's current needs.

4 WELLNESS ACTIVITIES March 2017 WELLNESS ACTIVITIES Gratiot Integrated Health Network offers numerous wellness activities throughout the year to help support individuals who receive services at our agency. These wellness activities have included topics such as healthy eating, exercise, stress management, self-care, and advocacy. In March, we offered a Nutrition and Wellness course at the Pine Avenue Drop-In Center. We were joined by a Nutritionist from the MSU Extension Program who came and taught the group about healthy eating and what the benefits are in regards to physical and mental health. Participants also were able to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables as a nutritious snack. Evidence linking diet and mental health is increasing. Along with its impact on short and long-term mental health, the evidence indicates that food can play an important role in the management and prevention of specific mental health problems. The theme of the event was Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, and the goal was to educate individuals on how to best care for themselves through healthy eating. Those who participated also went home with scales, pedometers, and literature on how to maintain a healthy diet. ADVOCACY April ADVOCACY The Section 298 initiative, revolves around whether the state s public mental health system will remain a public system, driven by the voices of local citizens, or whether to begin the conversion to a privately controlled for-profit system. The Michigan Legislature is in the process of making decisions that will profoundly impact the lives of over 300,000 of Michigan s most vulnerable residents. Gratiot Integrated Health Network has done a significant amount of advocacy work in regards to the Section 298 proposal. Our Client Advisory Panel (CAP) members submitted letters supporting the maintenance and strengthening of the public management of the state s behavioral health services. Several of our CAP members along with Gratiot Integrated Health Network employees attended a focus group to discuss concerns in regards to the 298 budget proposal to provide input for the Section 298 work group to present to the legislature.

5 WALK-A-MILE May 2017 WALK-A-MILE IN MY SHOES RALLY The Walk-a-Mile in My Shoes Rally is a walk for behavioral health and developmental disability advocates from around Michigan to gather at our state Capitol and educate the public and legislators about mental health. In 2017, nearly 4,000 advocates rallied on behalf of 300,000 vulnerable citizens at risk, as Section 298 on privatization traveled through the Michigan legislature. Another major component of the rally is to influence the Michigan legislature to support parity legislation. Mental health does not receive the same priority and insurance coverage as physical health in Michigan, despite the known benefits of receiving treatment. NEW BUSINESS HOURS June 2017 NEW BUSINESS HOURS To better serve the community, Gratiot Integrated Health Network expanded our business hours beginning on Monday and Wednesday from 8:00AM until 7:00PM. Gratiot Integrated Health Network will continue to offer the same services and support as before for those with mental illness, developmental disabilities, autism disorder, children with serious emotional disorders and those with substance use disorders. WALKING GROUP July 2017 WALKING GROUP Regardless of age or fitness level, studies show that making time for exercise provides some serious mental health benefits such as improving mood, memory and even lowers stress levels. Each year Gratiot Integrated Health Network offers a summer walking group to help support the integration of mental and physical health.

6 MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID August 2017 MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID Gratiot Integrated Health Network has three Mental Health First Aid instructors who present a variety of courses including Adult, Youth, Older Adult, and Higher Education modules. Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. More than 1 million people across the United States have been trained in Mental Health First Aid by a dedicated base of more than 12,000 Instructors. NEW BUILDING RENOVATION September 2017 NEW BUILDING RENOVATION Exterior work continues on our big project at 224 North Mill Street in Downtown St. Louis, at the former St. Louis Family Clinic building. Our St. Louis location will open spring/summer of We hope to make a positive impact and investment in the St. Louis community and in the downtown area.
