2 1.0 Upper Limb - Imaging Required 1.1 Imaging Required The type of procedure will largely dictate the imaging modality required. Please note that additional imaging may be required due to procedure complexity or image quality. 1.2 Data Transfer Imaging data can be ed to: Design.office@stanmoreimplants.com Alternatively data can be burnt on CD ROM and posted to: Design Services Stanmore Implants 210 Centennial Avenue Centennial Park Elstree WD6 3SJ United Kingdom Data can also be uploaded to our FTP server site. 3 2.0 Measurement Films 2.1 Measurement Scale A radio-opaque centimetre graduated scale or similar device must be used with each radiograph. The scale must be placed alongside and parallel to the shafts of the long bones. It is also important to place the scale as close to the bone being examined as possible in order to increase the measurement accuracy. Most importantly the scale must be raised off the couch surface so that it lies in the same plane as the bone and that the magnification of the scale corresponds to that of the bone. 2.3 Labelling of Radiographs Each radiograph should bear the following information: Patient's name, sex and record number Date Surgeon & Hospital Right or left anatomical marker Technique used, i.e. Erect, Supine Horizontal Beam Indicate any excess degree of fixed flexion. 2.2 Acrylic X-Ray Markers A Stanmore Implants acrylic x-ray marker can be supplied in cases where measurement rulers are not available. The distance between the centres of the Ø10mm ball bearings measures. When using the x-ray marker it is important to ensure that it is in line with the long bones and secured with velcro straps or surgical tape. Acrylic x-ray markers - available from Stanmore Implants on request. 2.4 General Information The following guidelines should be noted in order to provide accurate information: Care must be taken to maintain the patient in the same position throughout the examination Radiograph both the affected and unaffected limb of the patient so that the correct geometry of the bones and joints concerned can be determined For patients with a large degree of fixed flexion the bones have to be x-rayed separately so that they are parallel to the film If available use a secondary radiation grid to improve definition.
