Welcome The Gateshead Housing Company is committed to investing in our communities, supporting local people to live healthy lives and helping to create places where people want to live. Offering these free courses helps us enable people to improve their health and wellbeing in a range of ways. Here you will find courses linked to physical, mental and financial health, all designed to help you feel better and reduce the risk of social isolation. These courses also support Gateshead Council s priority to make Gateshead a place where everybody thrives, helping you to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle. To help you attend we offer a range of support, including interpreting services and reimbursement of travel costs. Please let us know when booking your place. Priority is given to our tenants and leaseholders. We hope you enjoy our courses and look forward to seeing you there! 2

Our trainers We work with a number of local trainers and housing experts to deliver our courses. You can read more about them here: Digital Voice for Communities We offer hands-on opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to use digital activities and skills to improve their lives. Since 2007 our social enterprise team has motivated and empowered individuals and community groups to cross the digital divide. Harvest and Help Established in 1999, Harvest and Help offers gardening opportunities and voluntary work to its members, volunteers and young adults with a disability as part of their work experience at school. The enterprise also carries out gardening and grounds maintenance work for local residents and businesses. Traincon Learning Our aim is to offer a selection of training that is accessible to all staff, volunteers, carers, families and communities. We do this by supporting our learners and adapting our teaching styles to suit their needs. In order for individuals to learn they need to enjoy what they are experiencing and we aim to make our training as enjoyable and interactive as possible. 3

TPAS We are England s leading tenant engagement experts, dedicated to improving tenant engagement standards across the country. We bring tenants, landlords and contractors together through a wide range of services, independent and impartial advice, support, consultancy and training. Rezvan Golestani I really enjoy delivering the Healthy Cooking on a Budget course and it s been really rewarding. I ve been able to help people understand that you can still eat healthily even if you re on a tight budget. This course is aimed at people who have little to no experience of cooking. 2Way Tenancy Solutions Our aim and objective is to prevent homelessness caused by tenants inability to pay rent and by a need to avoid an increase of rent arrears by landlords. Importantly we aim to work with clients to ensure they achieve financial confidence. 4

Testimonials See what our customers have said about our courses: Since attending various Moving Forward courses and through the housing company, I have regained my confidence and have met some lovely people. I would recommend these courses to anyone! Hazel Baker (tenant) I attended these courses to get a basic understanding of the topics covered, which has helped me set a goal to head towards for my next job. The staff and the people you meet on these courses are friendly and all want to achieve the same thing. I highly recommend these courses to anyone who wants to start off with the basics. Michael Lambert (tenant) So far we have enjoyed taking part in these classes and we have learnt skills that have already proven useful in our daily lives. As well as being educational it has been a fantastic opportunity to mix with new people and make new friends. We both agree that it s well worth anyone signing up for these classes. Rachel and Adam White (tenants) 5

Last year See how our training looked in 2018/19*: Split by gender 28% 72% Female (124/172) Male (49/172) Do you have a disability? Yes: 16% 95% 97% No: 84% would recommend our training rated our trainers 4 or 5 stars out of 5 6 * based on data from those attendees who completed an evaluation form at the end of their course.

Feedback comments from attendees Very informative course highlighting some situations I didn t recognise before and how to manage them. It gave you good solutions to avoid intimidating others. - Assertiveness skills I feel that I have learnt a lot more about dementia having attended the above course. Very interesting. - Dementia awareness I feel that if someone came to me needing help or advice I would feel better informed to help them. - Safeguarding awareness Course was very enlightening and made me look at things differently. I feel I am more knowledgeable about how to be assertive without losing my ability to be rational. - Confidence building (I feel) enthusiastic to grow more flowers and plants from cuttings, rather than spending money on ready grown plants and flowers. - Gardening Very helpful and informative. - Understanding Universal Credit More confident and have goals for the future and for the rest of my life. Understanding health improvement 7
