2 Courses Four week course starting Wed. 6 November 2013 Facilitators: Amanda Baker and Stephanie Langan On this fun, motivating course you will:- Learn and apply proven practical strategies for lifting your mood Receive handouts and worksheets to create your own Mood Boost workbook Identify specific strategies to practise each week Monitor your progress and find out what works best for you Build the foundation for an ongoing mood boost habit The focus of the course is on proactive application of learning. Course participants will not be expected to share details of their personal or sensitive information. 3 From Stress to Success: Using cognitive behaviour therapy to thrive in a stressful world. Stress is a fact of life. However understanding the causes of stress is the first step to combating it if it becomes a problem. From Stress to Success is a skillsbased course which aims to help students understand and manage stress more effectively, as well as focusing on communication skills, assertiveness, negative thinking, problem solving and relaxation. The course will be facilitated by practitioners from Talking Change, the NHS psychological therapies service, in association with The University of Portsmouth, so participants will need to be registered with a Portsmouth GP. Tuesday from pm on the following dates: Week 1 Tuesday 19 November 2013 Week 2 Tuesday 26 November 2013 Week 3 Tuesday 3 Decemer 2013 Week 4 Tuesday 10 December 2013 Registration for this course will open on 1 st October 2013 and involves completing an application from and sending this as an attachment (or by post) to the Talking Change Service directly. The Art of Calm A six week course starting 8 January 2014 Facilitators: Pam Ringland, Stephanie Langan The Art of Calm A 6 week course for students who wish to learn more about how creative activities can be used to improve mental health and wellbeing. Students will have the opportunity to try different creative techniques to produce their own representation of what calm means to them. Interested students will be invited to complete an application form which may be followed up by a brief phone conversation about the course with the facilitator to check its suitability. Course sessions will run on Wednesday afternoons as follows (times to be confirmed):- Week 1 Wednesday 8 January

5 Booking for this course will open on 26 November Stress Reduction through Mindfulness Six week course starting 22 January 2014 Facilitator: Kate Dunn Stress Reduction through Mindfulness (6 week course) Feeling stressed? Is everything getting on top of you? If so, you may find Mindfulness helpful. Mindfulness - Mindfulness is a meditative approach that helps you to cope with stress and anxiety. While it can take years to learn it properly, this six week course will teach you the basics of mindfulness and enable you to use it in your everyday life. You do need to attend all of the sessions to be able to make it work, so there is a commitment involved. Feedback from students has let us know that the commitment is really worth it. If you re interested we ll invite you to meet with the course facilitator and find out a bit more before signing up. (There are also two opportunities to attend a one-off half day introductory session on 6 November 2013 or 4 December 2013, where you can have an opportunity to meet the facilitator and find out more through experiencing a 'taste' of mindfulness meditation. Attendance at one of these sessions is not essential but might prove useful if you are considering attending the longer course.) The course will take place on six consecutive Wednesdays from 2:00pm to 3:30pm, starting Wednesday, 22 January, 2014 as follows:- Week 1 Wednesday 22 January 2014 Week 2 Wednesday 29 January 2014 Week 3 Wednesday 5 February 2014 Week 4 Wednesday 12 February 2014 Week 5 Wednesday 19 February 2014 Week 6 Wednesday 26 February 2014 The booking for this course will open on 27 November. 6 From Stress to Success A four week course starting Tues. 25 February 2014 Facilitators: Talking Change wellbeing practitioners From Stress to Success: Using cognitive behaviour therapy to thrive in a stressful world.
