CHAIRMAN S REPORT: I am pleased to report we have finished the year on a positive, so I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their commitment and solid effort in pushing The Leichhardt Bowling & Recreation Club LTD towards a strong future. With this, over the next months we will see some major renovations to the bowling greens and the outdoor entertaining area. We have plans in place to reorganise the bar and introduce some new beers. Sky-lit windows have been placed in the dining area to brighten up our dining area and make it that little more attractive and comfortable for our Members and Guests. (Membership is steadily growing.) Congratulations to all the winning Lady and Men Bowlers on their victories. Thank you to the Management, Staff, Members and their Guests for the support throughout the year. With The Lion s Den on track and growing from strength to strength I would like to thank Jasmine and her Crew on an outstanding effort. Thank you to our Sponsors for their generosity towards the Lady and Men Bowlers, and Steve our Green Keeper on his input towards the future major renovations which we will undertake in the coming months. On finalising there is still so much more we need to do and I am once again looking forward to working with the people who put up their hands, spare time and their ideas to help OUR CLUB progress into the future. Thank you GREG KING CHAIRMAN
TREASURERS REPORT: Firstly, I would like to thank members and their guests for their continued support of the club during the year by utilising the facilities and entertainment offered. As a result of this support the club continues to trade well with operating revenue increasing 5.4% to $1,443,229 compared to revenue achieved last year of $1,368,444. Most importantly trading profit increased 13.1% to $58,672 from $51,860 last year. This growth in profitability was achieved partly through increased turnover in key areas such as bar, keno and TAB combined with effective cost management and efficiency improvements in numerous areas of the clubs operation. This was achieved whilst continuing a focus on maintaining and improving the services and facilities provided to members and visitors. The profit growth occurred despite increased costs in general maintenance, council and water rates, small non capital items, increased general advertising and promotional expenditure and additionally some one-off costs of 90 th anniversary celebrations and Pennant Team support (finals). Another positive area was the reductions achieved in key expense areas such as Bar cost of sales (through higher brewery supplier rebate), more cost effective and improved raffle supplies, lower free drink costs, reduced use of external accounting services and reduced leave provision costs as more leave was taken. The cash generated from operations during the year continued at a similar level of $159,739 compared to last year at $160,130. This resulted in the clubs net cash position growing to $418,852 maintaining the capacity of the club to support further growth and provision of existing and new services. I would like to thank Daniel, Debbie, Jan and all our Staff for their support and the significant role they play in delivering the front line services to our members and guests and consequently their significant contribution to the results of the Club. Thank you to all members and their guests for their patronage and for their own promotion of the Club to introduce and welcome new members which has reached a new recent peak of 968. Congratulations to Jasmine and her team on the successful operation of Lion s Den Bistro (including the popular Sunday Buffet) and its contribution to attracting new members and increasing turnover in other areas of the club. I would like to thank everyone involved in organising and managing our 90 th anniversary weekend of celebration which was very well attended including many first time local visitors. I again would like to thank the men s and ladies bowls committees for their ongoing management and development of the sport which continues to be a core contributor to the clubs success. Thank you to Steve and his greens staff for the maintenance and excellent presentation of our core asset in this regard.
Congratulations to all those players that were successful in their respective championship games and also to our pennant teams that continued to be a force in each of their grades. I look forward to the new financial year and one in which the clubs continued focus is to provide the entertainment, services and bowls environment that meets our members expectations and continues to attract new members and visitors. In closing I would like to offer my sincere condolences to all that have lost a family member or friend during the past year. DAVID ARNOTT TREASURER
SECRETARY S REPORT: This concludes my fourth full year as manager and licensee of Leichhardt Bowling and Recreation Club LTD, the club is continuing to grow both in patronage and revenue, this year has seen the club once again show a profit. A total of $58k was recorded for the year ending 30 June See our Treasurers report for a detailed breakdown and notes regarding the financial performance of your club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the directors for their continued efforts in progressing our club into the future, and for their direction and valued contributions to the management and operations of the primary business. Our goal is to create long term sustainability whilst providing our Members with modern and appealing facilities. In addition to this, customer service remains our number one priority. Despite the pressure on the club industry, the position of your Club continues to remain strong and capable of achieving these goals. The clubs financial achievement this year has been attributed to the rise in membership and patronage, Membership numbers have grown to 968 as at 30 th June 2014, and still rising. With larger numbers patronising the club this has led to larger turnover. The local community has benefited from the introduction of the Lion s Den Bistro, and this has been evident in the volume of customers, thank you to Jasmine and her staff for the professional, friendly service and dedication that you have added to our club. The clubs foundation is built around the sport of lawn bowls and during this past financial year I was lucky enough to be a part of the milestone 90 th year birthday celebrations, I would like to thank all members of the club who aided in celebrating and organising the successful weekend held last September. Bowling participation has again been very successful this year with men s and women s bowling clubs participating and performing strongly in both competitive and social levels. I would like to thank President Neville and the Men s bowling committee and President Rona and the women s bowling committee for successful management and organisation of the club s principal objective. Leichhardt Bowling Club is fortunate to have brigades of loyal social Members, many of which have called Leichhardt Bowling Club home for many decades. Whilst they may not have participated in Bowls, they contribute significantly to the enrichment of the fabric of our Club and I thank them for their support. This year will see mandatory Director training come into effect for our club, at least two of our Directors will have to complete two modules of mandatory legislated Club Governance Reforms. These two modules are Directors
Foundation and Management Collaboration and Finance for Club Boards. New directors if any that are elected into office from this year on will have to complete this legislative requirement. This in my opinion is a positive step towards the future governance of your club. Members should feel confident that your Board of Directors will meet the Mandatory Training to comply under Legislation, as part of their Professional Development requirements. It is also important to recognise that your Club is the home to a vast number of community groups which we enthusiastically support. These groups include but are not limited to the Leichhardt Bowling Cricket Club/s, the Wednesday Quilting group and Julie and the line dancers on Tuesdays. From an operational perspective we have a great team of staff and management to whom I thank for adapting and streamlining all new policies that have been introduced. Thank you to our greenkeeper Steve and his team of dedicated staff, To Debra for her strong work ethic and unyielding assistance, to Jan and the newly appointed Supervisor Chloe for their attention to customer service and performing above and beyond in their responsibilities, and to all the bar staff for giving their all to the progression of the club, I thank you. In closing your management team continues to focus on providing an enjoyable facility for all Members. With thanks DANIEL HITCHCOCK SECRETARY MANAGER
