27 Inroduction of STAC SAARC Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS Centre (STAC) is one of the Regional Centres of SAARC working for Prevention and Control of TB and HIV/AIDS in the Region by coordinating the efforts of the National TB Control Programmes (NTPs) and National AIDS Control Programmes (NACPs) of the Member Countries. SAARC TB Centre (STC) came into existence in 1992 Started functioning in 1994 The Thirty-first Session of Standing Committee of SAARC held in Dhaka on November 9-10, 2005 approved the renaming of the Centre as SAARC Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS Centre (STAC). The Heads of State or Government of Member States of SAARC at their Fifth Summit held in Male from 22 to 23 November 1990 decided that SAARC Tuberculosis Centre would be set up in Nepal. Accordingly, the SAARC TB Centre established in 1992 and started its functioning since Considering the efficiency & appreciating the efforts and activities related to work on TB/HIV Co-infection and HIV/AIDS done by the Centre, the Meeting of Thirtyfirst Session of the Standing Committee of SAARC held in Dhaka (9-10 November, 2005) approved the renaming of the Centre as SAARC Tuberculosis and HIV/ AIDS Centre (STAC). Vision, Mission, Goal and Objectives of STAC Vision SAARC TB and HIV/AIDS Centre (STAC) be the leading institute to support and guide SAARC Member States to make the region free of TB and HIV/AIDS. Mission To support the efforts of National TB and HIV/AIDS Control Programmes through evidence based policy guidance, coordination and technical support. Goal To minimize the mortality and morbidity due to TB and HIV/AIDS in the region and to minimize the transmission of both infections until TB and HIV/AIDS diases to be major public health problems in the SAARC Region At a Glance 11 Objectives To work for prevention and control of TB and HIV/AIDS in the Region by coordinating the efforts of the National Tuberculosis Control Programmes and National AIDS Control Programmes of the Member States.
