Take advantage of an excellent training and continuing medical education (CME) opportunity that the conference provides. In one of the most important years in Australasian viral hepatitis, there will never be a moment like this in our field again exciting times for patients, carers and professionals alike. We are at a unique moment in history to reduce the burden of HBV and HCV in Australia and New Zealand. 2 ASHM NEWS PBAC rejects application for HIV PrEP On 19 August, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC), the key committee of experts which advises government on which drugs to subsidise through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) announced that it has rejected the application from Gilead Sciences to list Truvada for HIV Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PREP). 3 Seeking expressions of interest Australia wide for Viral Hepatitis Mentoring Program ASHM invites all health professions working the area of viral hepatitis to be part of its Mentoring Program a continuing professional development program that aims to strengthen collaborations between tertiary and primary care (mentors and mentees) through one to one relationships, and to enhance patientcentered continuity of care. ASHM will continue to roll out the launch of this program in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, and Queensland in for frequently asked questions. Register your interest now via education@ashm.org.au or call Beni Falemaka on (02) Forthcoming Launch of Third National Hepatitis B Mapping Project The Second National Hepatitis B Mapping Project reported that only 14% of people with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) received appropriate monitoring for their condition. CHB is estimated to affect approximately 220,000 Australians, however less than 50% have been diagnosed. This third national report to be launched later this year can be used to monitor the impact of initiatives to increase treatment uptake and appropriate care for people with CHB. Read more SECTOR NEWS Roadshow showcases new approaches to HIV treatment across Queensland A roadshow event showcasing new approaches to HIV treatment and its prevention was rolled out over two weeks across 8 locations in Queensland from 25 July to 4 August, Hosted by the HIV Foundation Queensland and joined by partnering organisations, the roadshow scheduled a series of Treatment as Prevention (TasP) accredited dinner meetings, as well as clinic and hospital meetings. Read more Monitoring hepatitis C treatment uptake in Australia: Reimbursements for new treatment during March to June 2016 Now with 4 months of data, the Kirby Institutes monitoring of HCV uptake is showing some trends. It is thought that with lag time about 10% of people with chronic HCV may have been treated. Read the full report Videx and some Zerit treatment to be deleted Bristol Myers Squibb has advised that they are deleting: Videx (didanosine) 125 mg and 200 mg capsules. Supply will continue until the existing stock has run out. Zerit (Stavudine) 20mg capsules. Supply of 30 mg and 40 mg will remain unaffected. The

4 20mg stock will continue until supply runs out. Access it here Positive Life NSW Launches New Support Program: TORQUE An HIV diagnosis is a challenging time for people newly diagnosed with HIV. In response to requests from clinicians diagnosing people with HIV, Positive Life has developed a program called TORQUE specifically for people who are newly diagnosed. Visit the website RESOURCES Primary Care Providers and Hepatitis C is an updated booklet including information on the hepatitis C virus, the natural history of HCV, and a straightforward 12 step plan for the management of HCV and treatment protocols with the new direct acting antiviral (DAAs) medications. Download the resource The Nurses and Hepatitis C profession based booklet provides education about: the disease and its prevention; lifestyle and psychosocial factors; testing and diagnosis; support during treatment; resources and referal to support services. It is aligned with the 'Australasian Hepatology Association's Consensus based Nursing Guidelines for the Care of Patients with Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Advanced Liver Disease and and Heptocellular Carcinoma'. Order the resource The Australian recommendations for the management of hepatitis C virus infection: a consensus statement 2016, is now accessible as an App, available for download via Google Play and the Apple itunes Store. It is also available as a website resource. This resource provides guidance on

5 diagnosis, assessment, monitoring and the use of new treatments for hepatitis C. Read More HCV New Treatments Quick Reference Tool This two page quick reference guide assists health professionals to decide which new direct acting antiviral hepatitis C treatment regimen is most appropriate for their patient. Download the resource The Second edition of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis after Non Occupational and Occupational Exposure to HIV: Australian National Guidelines is now available. These guidelines outline the management of individuals who have been exposed (or suspect they have been exposed) to HIV in non occupational and occupational settings. There are currently no data from randomised controlled trials of the use of post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and evidence for use has been extrapolated from animal data, mother to child transmission, occupational exposure and small prospective studies of PEP regimens in HIV negative men. Download the resource Sexual Health Infolink launches new Partner Notification service for clinicians in NSW NSW clinicians requiring assistance contacting partners of patients diagnosed with HIV and STIs can use a new service that offers assistance to support the clinician, the patient and/or the patient's partner. The aim of the service is to ensure access to testing and treatment quickly to reduce the onward transmission of STIs. Partner notifications can be made online with all information encrypted, transmitted and stored securely. 6 ASHM COURSES SEPTEMBER to NOVEMBER ASHM Training available for a broad range of clinicians, not just general practitioners. On offer is a range of training courses and format for clinicians at all levels who are seeking to up skill in HIV, hepatitis C and hepatitis B management. While GPs usually make up the majority of participants in our courses, sexual health physicians, AoD and general physicians as well as ID physicians who might be wanting to update their viral hepatitis skills are encouraged to attend. Nurses working in hepatitis are also able to attend these, in addition to courses in the Nursing Program.
