3 Introduction to the Conference and Event Overview: Location: Stamford Plaza Melbourne Date: 7 th 9 th September Time: 8:30am to 4:30pm Expected Attendance: 100 to 200 attendees The Australian Counselling Association Inc (ACA) annual National Conference is a two-day professional development event to be hosted in Melbourne CBD, between the 8 th and 9 th of September, The conference will be attended by 100 to 200 Mental Health professionals, Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Nurses, Teachers, Trainers, Students, Specialist Speakers, Guidance Officers, ehealth workers and many key mental health stakeholders. There will be a significant focus on Resilience and Counselling, in addition to a focus on working with young people, with an overall theme of Diversity. The ACA National Conference will explore the definitions and focuses of resilience-building through counselling; as more and more Australians seek support for mental health issues, having the resilience to overcome future issues is a significant need for clients. The conference will also discuss the growth in the counselling and promote best practice models. The conference will also cover more traditional themes that include relationships, models of therapy, financial counselling, domestic violence issues, drug and alcohol services and other areas. History of ACA and National Conferences ACA holds its annual AGM combined with its national conference every year within Australia. The main focus of these events is to present an opportunity for ACA members and other mental health professionals with a platform to share the latest research, techniques and advances in therapy. These events also attract ongoing professional development points. Each ACA registered counsellor must accumulate mandatory ongoing professional development points and professional supervision hours; similar to Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Social Workers and other professions. The National Conference s purpose is to advance the skills and expertise in the industry specific to counselling. Similar events have been held in the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, and Brisbane. Attendance has been historically between 100 and 200 attendees. With the support of sponsors, ACA has been able to facilitate many successful events. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from attendees and sponsors alike. ACA is a not-for-profit association that is owned by the members. 8 Terms and Conditions: Application for sponsorship, exhibition and advertising applications are taken on a first-in, first served basis and must be made using the booking form on the final pages. Please ensure your application arrives early to secure your choice of sponsorship and/or exhibition location. Due to the popularity of this event, it is anticipated the sponsorship opportunities to sell out quickly. Upon receipt of your booking form and payment, you will receive written confirmation and a receipt. Full payment is required within seven days of receipt in order to secure your booking. Sponsorship and trade display conditions: Sponsors participate on the understanding that: Sponsorship monies contribute to the successful planning and promotion of the conference in addition to subsidising the costs of management, communication, invited speakers, program, publications, etc. Sponsorship exposure and acknowledgement are facilitated by credits in the conference. Program and mention at conference presentations. Display tables have a high exposure position and are situated adjacent to the breakout rooms. Morning and afternoon tea will be served in the same area as the tables. Due to the close nature of the venue sponsors will be up close and personal to all attendees. Sponsorship monies are not expended on any entertainment and on this basis, sponsorship monies are tax deductible. Provision of banners, transparencies and any other promotion material is the responsibility of the sponsor. Colour (if used) reproduction will, when printed, be as close to the specified colour as practical. Information provided in the sponsorship and exhibition opportunities document is correct at the time of going to print. 9 Outstanding Student Awards The Australian Counselling Association is a proactive organisation that celebrates outstanding counselling students before they become registered counsellors or registered psychotherapists. As a result, ACA is calling for ACA Accredited course providers (at both the Vocational and Higher Education level) to recommend one (1) student per provider for an Outstanding Student Award. Each training provider must, in addition to nominating an outstanding student, write a short essay (no more than two pages) on what makes this student outstanding and deserving of the Outstanding Student in Counselling Award For every provider that submits a student for the Outstanding Student Award 2018, that student will be judged for recognition by ACA for the Best Student in Counselling Award 2018 (one at a vocational level, one at a higher education level). These awards will be presented at the closing ceremony of the conference. Prizes for Outstanding Student Awards will include 12-month membership with the Australian Counselling Association. The winner of the Best Student in Counselling Award 2018 will receive a free 12-month ACA membership and a 12-month subscription to the ACA Journal. Each training provider that nominates an outstanding student must facilitate that student to attend the ACA National Conference. Travel, accommodation and conference registration expenses must be paid by the training provider; not by the student or ACA. The training provider must submit their candidate to ACA by the deadline of 31 August, ACA will only accept nominations from ACA Accredited/Listed course providers. Encourage your employees to attend! The Australian Counselling Association is a national peak body with a vast network of mental health professionals, students, trainers, providers, and other key stakeholders; it will be a worthwhile event for individuals, educationally, and also professionally. By aligning with the largest peak body in the country for counselling and psychotherapy, there can be many benefits to employers and individuals alike.
