2 2017/18 TRANSPLANT HIGHLIGHTS Transplants from living donors 270 Transplants from deceased donors 993 Total transplants in Ontario (Living and deceased donors) 1,263 1,514 Ontarians waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant (March 31, 2018) First successful islet cell transplant in Ontario at University Health Network Developed Clinical Handbook for Heart Transplantation to support and improve patient centred care In partnership with Ontario Renal Network, rolled-out education strategy at 13 renal centres to improve understanding of kidney transplantation and living donation Increased funding support to patients for accommodation expenses through the Patient Expense Reimbursement Program (TPER) Recipients often become the most passionate advocates for organ and tissue donation. Here, dedicated TGLN advocate and heart recipient, Jennifer Monteith promoted organ and tissue donation awareness at a festival celebrating multiculturalism. 1 TRILLIUM GIFT OF LIFE NETWORK 2017/18 HIGHLIGHTS REPORT
3 2017/18 ORGAN DONATION HIGHLIGHTS 95% routine notification rate 1 62% consent rate 57% conversion rate 2 organ yield 3 deceased organ donors 1 The rate at which hospitals notify TGLN when a patient has died and there may be potential for organ and/or tissue donation. 2 The rate at which potential organ donors become actual organ donors. 3 Number of organs recovered and transplanted per donor. 4 2017/18 TISSUE DONATION HIGHLIGHTS 101 Bone donations 2,127 ocular donors 210 multi-tissue donors 49% Tissue consent rate 56 Skin donations 53 Heart valve donations Launched Paramedic Referral and Screening Program in Ottawa and United Counties of Prescott and Russell Consolidated multi-tissue recovery services under TGLN maximizing recovery opportunities and improving service delivery New Tissue Recovery Suite housed at the Forensic Services and Coroner s Complex In partnership with Eye Bank of Canada Ontario Division, developed ocular recovery and training plan to support optimal outcomes for corneal transplant Tissue recovery training in progress in the Learning Centre. 3 TRILLIUM GIFT OF LIFE NETWORK 2017/18 HIGHLIGHTS REPORT
5 2017/18 REGISTRATION HIGHLIGHTS More than 226,000 new registrations Reaching a total of more than 3.9 million registered donors Increasing registration rate to 32% 116 communities with a registration rate of 40 percent or more by end of 2017/18 1,093 news stories referencing TGLN with a reach of more than 92 million people 92,000 fans on Facebook and more than 5,000 Twitter followers Supported more than 175 community and advocate led events Launched a new multi-media marketing campaign to encourage donor registration Recognized outstanding TGLN volunteers through Advocates In Action Award Partnered with South Asian agencies to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation Healthcare professionals share their pride in being registered organ donors during BeADonor Month. 4 TRILLIUM GIFT OF LIFE NETWORK 2017/18 HIGHLIGHTS REPORT
6 2017/18 QUALITY, INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS Four successful multitissue audits conducted by provincial tissue banks Updated liver, lung and heart allocation algorithms based on expert working group direction to enhance equity and fairness in distribution of organs TOTAL replacement project initiated Research Program established a first of its kind among organ donation agencies in Canada to drive innovation, evidence - based decision making and support improvements in transplant outcomes We will forever be known by the tracks we leave.
