Letters of Appreciation from Recipients of the 2017 Patricia and Paul C. Bragg Global Health Scholarship Fund As the season of thanks giving approaches us, I am most grateful for your continued generosity and support to advance natural medicine globally. The Patricia and Paul C. Bragg Global Health Scholarship provides recipients the opportunity to serve this mission and cultivate long lasting leadership skills. The 2017 recipients of the Patricia and Paul C. Bragg Global Health Scholarship follow the tradition of creating bridges to support your vision to grow natural medicine globally. I am truly thankful for the blessing of your continued support and express thanks on behalf of the recipients in Puerto Rico as well Ismayra Santiago, Andrea Seijo, Cindy Figueroa and Verónica Colón who were only able to send text messages of thanks due to the power outage from hurricane Maria. With immense gratitude, Dr. Tabatha Parker, NDI President Thank you so much for your generous Bragg Scholarship. I was completely humbled and ecstatic to hear I was a recipient as my participation in the global health course with NDI was dependent upon it. Your generosity has touched the lives of many and I feel incredibly honoured to have been chosen this year. The opportunity I had at NDI is something I do not take for granted and I will remember my experience there for years to come. NDI affirmed my passions of working in global health and serving people in a greater capacity. Our medicine goes far beyond the physical and seeing that come to life at NDI is something every student should have the opportunity to see. I am so thankful for my education and for my time spent at NDI and your support has been invaluable and will surely continue to make a ripple effect. Sincerely, Jessica Peters 2 nd Year ND Student, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, New Westminster, BC Canada
I would like to send you my sincere thanks for the honour of receiving the Bragg Global Health Scholarship to attend the NDI brigade this past summer. My experience on Ometepe was one of a lifetime. Learning from Dr. Parker, Dr. Lopez, and Lilliam was inspiring and further ignited my passion for pursuing naturopathic medicine. Seeing the impact that we had on the community in Ometepe was heartwarming. Word spread around town that the brigade was coming and they were all so grateful to receive our care. That kind of impact on another human being is humbling and life changing. You helped make all this possible and ensured that I was a part of it. For this, I cannot thank you enough. Sincerely, Samantha Petrin 2nd Year ND Student, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, New Westminster, BC Canada I would like to tell you how much I appreciate the generous donation that I received thorough the Bragg scholarship. This is what made it possible for me to participate in the global health course through NDI. This scholarship allowed me to learn so much about our profession and about global health. Above all else, this scholarship allowed me to participate in a trip that provided me with so much inspiration and excitement for pursuing a future in global healthcare. I feel so grateful to have been able to work alongside the NDI team, as well as connect with future naturopathic doctors from around the world. Once again, thank you so much for providing me with the opportunity, and allowing me to participate in such an incredible experience. Sincerely, Charlotte Rose 1st Year, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, New Westminster, Canada I would like express my sincere gratitude for your generous donation and continued support for NDI. As a first year naturopathic medicine student, this scholarship has provided me with the opportunity to fully embrace the profession and further strengthen my passion for our medicine. It was incredibly humbling and rewarding to be able to offer space for healing at this point in my education, and it has been an absolute privilege to serve on a global level. The memories shared with fellow colleagues and the wonderful Ometepe community will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for making this invaluable experience possible. With gratitude, Chenoa Liu 1st Year ND Student, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, New Westminster, BC Canada
I would like to take the time to acknowledge your warm-hearted generosity. As a student, living in a very privileged country, I do not take near enough time to count my blessings, but this trip has allowed me to step back into my true self again. The donations that you provide us students is truly an amazing act of kindness. Thank you very much for your incredible donation, it has led me down a beautiful path and you inspire me to spread acts of kindness no matter the size, as I realize that these acts of kindness can truly change the world. Sincerely, Audrey Lynn 3 rd Year ND Student, Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Toronto, Canada I just wanted to take a minute to let you know how grateful and appreciative I am for the Patricia and Paul C. Bragg Global Health Scholarship. The experience I had with NDI in Nicaragua was a dream come true. It was a chance to combine my two passions of travel and natural health, while opening my eyes to the difference that can be made for people in need by sharing what I have learned in only my first year of school. I now understand the possibilities this presents for me when I am done with my education and the difference that can be made in populations that need our support. The experience working alongside such incredible minds at NDI has left me with clinical wisdom and an understanding of how healing and beneficial the patient/doctor interaction can be. Thanks again for your support, this is an experience I will not forget and I foresee it guiding my career choices as I continue my path into naturopathic medicine. Sincerely, Katie Schiavon 1 st Year ND Student, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, New Westminster, BC Canada I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your support and generous donation for what was one of the most transformative experiences of my academic career. It has been a dream of mine to serve on a medical brigade and I thank you for helping make that possible. The NDI Nicaragua trip was not only an opportunity to become a better healthcare provider but also a gift of immersion into a language and culture and way of life and gentle reminder of the creative spirit that lives in us all. It was soul nourishing to be with kindred spirits and community living simply. These 10 days provided such a deep satisfaction and sense of alignment and renewed sense of love for this medicine. I cannot say enough good things about this brigade. Thank you again for the privilege and honor to represent NUNM. I hope to return in a greater capacity to continue to learn from and serve my global family. Sincerely, Sonam Bhimbra 3 rd Year ND Student, National University of Natural Medicine, Portland, OR
I would like to thank you with sincere gratitude for your generous donation to the NDI scholarship program. Without your support, I would have been unable to attend this year s brigade. My week-long experience at the NDI clinic was a heart-warming and educational experience. The NDI clinic is such an integral part of the Ometepe community and I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to volunteer and support such an incredible clinic. In addition, I learned many invaluable skills that will carry forward into my future career as a naturopathic doctor. Thank you once again for all your support. Sincerely, Samantha Bowen 2 nd Year, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, New Westminster, BC Canada Dear Patricia Bragg, I was and am incredibly grateful for this scholarship. Attending this brigade taught me so much. The impact that the clinic has on the surrounding communities is tangible and significant. I am so glad that you chose to support NDI so that they can continue to do this work. Women receive support for sexual and emotional abuse, individuals with significant pain can improve their quality of life, and those who need it are given travel assistance to a major hospital. I was privileged to get to learn from the clinic's amazing doctors and operating model. I hope I find a way to put this knowledge to work in the future to better contribute to the world I live in. I nearly chose not to attend this brigade due to financial concerns. Your scholarship significantly reduced my stress, thank you so much for the support. Sincerely, Kayla Peter 2 nd Year, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, New Westminster, Canada Dear Dr Patricia Bragg, I wanted to express my sincerest gratitude for your support through the Patricia and Paul C. Bragg Global Health Scholarship. With this financial support, I was able to volunteer at NDI in July 2017, fulfilling a longstanding goal of working in global health. It was both a humbling and inspiring experience working at the clinic. I learned much about not just naturopathic medicine, but of the healing power of being present with patients an experience I will carry forward in future practice. Your continued generosity is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jenna Scott 2 nd Year, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, New Westminster, British Columbia
Thank you so much for making the scholarships possible. I was fortunate to meet Dr. Parker at a conference in Australia earlier this year. We got chatting about my work in developing a Naturopathic community health project with the Indigenous community in Melbourne. Dr Parker offered me a scholarship to join the next brigade heading to the clinic on Ometepe in Nicaragua, an offer too good to turn down! I would have never been able to go without the help of the scholarship. My time with NDI on Ometepe was an incredible experience, showing me the key role Naturopathic medicine can play in underserved communities. Learning about the clinical models used by NDI and the way it develops and implements its projects has given me such great knowledge and experience to bring back to Australia. I was so inspired by the work NDI does, not only in Nicaragua but also around the world. By being a global network, promoting Naturopathic Medicine, while working with communities in a genuine and empowering way. The experiential learning style of the course was like none other, it forged deep understandings and insight that just cannot be learned any other way. Thanks again, Trent Wrightson Graduate, Southern School of Natural Therapies, Melbourne Australia To The Bragg Health Foundation, This summer I had the pleasure and privilege of attending NDI s 60th Brigade on Ometepe Island. As a 2nd year student of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr with 4 kids at home, the support I received from The Patricia and Paul C. Bragg Global Health Scholarship was essential for my involvement in the program. My time in Nicaragua was extremely impactful on a professional and personal level. My time with NDI filled me with hope. Not only do others share my vision for this medicine and this world, but they have already laid the groundwork and set a precedent for the emergence of this medicine. Seeing NDI s work on the island confirmed the lessons I d learned in India. Learning about NDI s history of advocacy on the global stage revealed to me the policies and regulatory context for making my (and now our) vision a reality. It is essential that ND students without a history in international work are exposed to the potential of this medicine for the global community. This Scholarship is creating a vital link between the emerging field of Naturopathic Medicine and the need of a growing global population to be healthy and whole. Thank you. In sincere gratitude, Ryan Phillips 4th Year, Bastyr University, Kenmore, Washington
