1 Proposal Of the Wound Care Management Seminar
2 Description of the Program: This seminar will provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to improve their competence in assessing and managing different types of wounds. It is designed to engage attendees in new care protocols and emphasize recent advances. The Seminar topics will focus on the presentation of different types of wounds and their respective management. The importance of the course is in the hands-on skills application section. Candidates will be divided into 3 groups and will rotate on pre-set skill stations for demonstration and application. The seminar will be given over 3 full days. Target Audience: Nurses from different hospitals (up to 30 candidates per course) Statement of Need: Chronic wound critically impacts patients health and their quality of life and represents a main burden on health care cost. Accordingly, healing chronic wounds and preventing their occurrence constitute a main concern for healthcare givers. The wound care course is aimed at providing attendees with a review of basic principles and evidence based practices of advanced wound care. It is designed to be clinically oriented and to provide healthcare professionals with core competencies of wound care including wound assessment, healing processes and best practices in prevention and management of chronic wounds. Activity Objectives: The attendees will be able to: 1- Distinguish different types of chronic wounds 2- Recognize the pathophysiology of chronic wounds 3- Differentiate new trends in wound management 4- Identify characteristics of different dressings 5- Comprehend the rationale and application of preventive measures 6- Apply new dressing therapies Program Curriculum 1- Differentiation between the different types of wounds and respective types of dressings. 2- Patient assessment and management including staging and differential diagnosis. 3- Wound dressing guidelines in various cases. 4- Skin integrity prevention and management. 1 P a g e
3 Instruction Methods: Given the diversity of the group, the sessions will be given in English. Handouts will also be available in French. Seminar Completion: To earn the certificate of completion, participants must complete the following: 1- Attend the whole seminar on Wound Care Management 2- Fill the evaluation forms at the end of each seminar 3- Fill the personal verification form required by ANCC Certificate of completion will be provided to participants at the end of the activity. The intent of this disclosure is not to prevent a speaker with a significant financial or other relationship from making a presentation, but rather to provide learners with information on which they can make their own judgments.
