DAY 1 1 Left hemisphere learning disabilities are more common among children with Asperger syndrome than right hemisphere disabilities. 2 The amygdala is likely to play an important role in autism spectrum disorders. 3 Mind-blindness can lead to misunderstanding in conversation. 4 Students with autism are more likely to be deductive learners. 5 Children with Asperger s syndrome may speak fluently and have advanced vocabulary. 6 Sensory issues with students with Asperger s are similar to those who are autistic. 7 People with Asperger s tend to be more under focused than over focused.

3 J&K Seminars, LLC (800) P0510 V1 page 3 MORNING BREAK LUNCH 8 The ADOS diagnostic system effectively identifies individuals with Aspergers Syndrome. 9 High functioning autistic children tend to be clumsy. 10 Attention to small details is more characteristic of Aspergers than ADHD 11 Most people with Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities (NVLD) have Aspergers. 12 Persons with schizoid personality disorder usually have a history of narrow and circumscribed interests. 13 Failure to show and to care, joint attention, is a strong indicator of autism in young children. 14 Early developmental history is one of the important domains to evaluate for an accurate diagnosis of ASD with adolescents. 15 ADI refers to the Autism Diagnostic Interview. 16 Pairing ASD students with other students will automatically improve social skills. 17 Opportunities for practice are very important in developing social competence. 18 Sitting forward during a lecture can be part of the hidden social curriculum. 19 In working with those with ASD, it is usually important to identify motivators when teaching new skills. 20 Learning how to be a good loser, is an example of a pivotal skill for board games.

4 J&K Seminars, LLC (800) P0510 V1 page 4 21 Students with ASD would have an easy time learning new conversation skills while simultaneously participating in an activity requiring their attention and focus. AFTERNOON BREAK DAY 2 22 Circle of Friends is a commercially available program. 23 Finding an adult. is an example of a Plan B when a student is unsure about what to do. 24 Ecological assessments can be used to select social skill objectives for individuals. 25 Social Stories address motivation deficits. 26 It is usually effective to force ASD students to join social skill groups even if they resist. 27 Young children with ASD are very effective leaders of social skill groups. 28 Teaching social conversation skills involves learning a significant number of discrete but inter-related behaviors. 29 The Rosenberg Find Out is what a teacher said when an autistic child has a question. 30 Rewarding positive behavior is critical in addressing challenging behaviors. 31 Understanding behavioral function is required for interventions to be effective in addressing challenging behaviors. 32 Functional behavioral assessment has a predictive function. 33 With behavior maintained by automatic reinforcement, the focus is on first eliminating the behavior completely, and only then teaching a functionally equivalent replacement skill.

DAY 2 MORNING BREAK 36 A negative reinforcement trap occurs when parent and child are both reinforced by escaping from each others aversive behaviors. 37 A preference is the same as a reinforcer. 38 Functional assessment and analysis include manipulation of conditions that may influence the target behavior. 39 Behavior rarely occurs in isolation. Assume there are reliable precursors and/or chains and investigate for these. 40 Functionally equivalent behaviors are designed to achieve the same reward as the challenging behavior. 41 Hiding undesirable food within desirable food is highly effective technique to treat food avoidances. 42 You can get the FAST for free on the internet. DAY 2 LUNCH 43 In conducting a functional assessment, it is best to lump together many different behaviors initally. 44 A pen and pad on the table can be a stimulus prompt to take notes. 45 Increasing a functionally equivalent positive behavior is important to maintaining low rates of problem behavior over time. 46 Differential reinforcement requires punishment for negative behavior.

6 J&K Seminars, LLC (800) P0510 V1 page 6 47 Social validity should be a component of every behavioral support plan. 48 Least restrictive is easier to establish than demonstrated efficiency. 49 Escape extinction procedures when treating feeding disorders includes forced feedings. DAY 2 AFTERNOON BREAK 50 Contingent waiting includes observing appropriate models. 51 Escape cannot be permitted to succeed as a reinforce, if it follows an unwanted behavior. 52 At the end of the program, Dr. Powers identified 10 strategies to increase instructional effectiveness. 53 The rule of Contiguity refers to reinforcing quickly after the student performs the desired behavior. 54 Yes/No choices are typically most functional and most effective. 55 Clinicians treating severe challenging behaviors should adhere to the principal of the least restrictive intervention necessary to achieve positive outcomes. 56 Appropriate is a better word to use instead of effective when describing criteria for selecting instructional methods and environments for students with ASD. ##### END ##### WARNING: You must complete this test alone.
