Based upon a case study provided by the instructor, participants will complete a needs analysis in a small group. Rachel Lally, M.A., BCBA attended Marymount Manhattan College, where she received a bachelor's degree in both psychology and education. After teaching in general and special education classroom settings for 12 years, she received her M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis with a Specialty in Autism. In 2007, she became a founding member of Lowcountry Autism Foundation, an organization that provides diagnostic assessments and screening at no cost to families, based in Charleston, SC. Rachel currently works for ENACT Learning Technologies in Jacksonville as a BCBA, providing consultation to schools and developing and supervising ABA programs for families in the Jacksonville and Wilmington area. 2 Behavioral Assessment and Treatment of Pediatric Feeding Disorders Presented by Melanie Bachmeyer, Ph.D., L.P., BCBA-D University of North Carolina at Wilmington Wednesday, February 11 th, 2015, 9:00am 12:00pm Describe the causes of pediatric feeding problems and how they interact. Describe the factors that need to be addressed prior to beginning behavioral interventions. Identify feeding-related behavioral excesses and deficits and determine appropriate treatment goals. Identify antecedent and consequence events contributing to the behavioral excesses and deficits in order to select interventions. Define the empirically-supported interventions, based on principles of operant conditioning, to treat feeding problems. Based on assessment results, determine variables that should be considered when implementing the empiricallysupported interventions. The Presenter Melanie Bachmeyer, Ph.D., L.P., BCBA-D received her master s degree from Georgia State University while working at the Marcus Autism Center under the direction of Drs. Cathleen Piazza and Wayne Fisher. She received her doctorate from the University of Iowa under the direction of Drs. David Wacker and John Northup. She completed a predoctoral internship in the Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Bachmeyer is currently an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She conducts clinical research focused on behavioral assessment and treatment of pediatric feeding disorders. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Analysis in Practice, and Behavioral Interventions. The Presenters Rachel Bowman, Ph.D. received her Ph.D. in child clinical psychology from West Virginia University and attended a predoctoral internship training program in developmental disabilities and applied behavior analysis at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Prior to her move to North Carolina in 2011, she was on the faculty at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for 9 years. Currently, Rachel is an assistant professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the Duke University School of Medicine. Her specialty areas include the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders, parent training, early intervention, and behavior therapy. In her spare time, she enjoys running, hiking, biking, playing piano and guitar, international travel, and volunteering with retired racing greyhound rescue groups. Holly Moses, M.S., LPA, LPC, BCBA is a Psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst at Duke University Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics. She has specialized in autism for 16 years. Holly has published numerous research articles and is a frequent presenter on topics such as learning, challenging behavior, autism, and parenting stress. Dr. Purnima Valdez, M.D. is board-certified Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician who is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Duke University School of Medicine. She provides care in the assessment and management of general developmental-behavioral pediatrics for children from birth through young adulthood. She is the Educational Manager for the Behavior and Development rotation for the Duke Pediatric Residency program and has a research interest in electronic screen media usage in individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The Presenters Hour 1: Dennis H. Reid, Ph.D., BCBA-D has over 40 years of experience as a behavior analyst. He has consulted in the majority of states in the US as well as four Canadian provinces, New Zealand, and Australia. He has published over 140 refereed journal articles and book chapters focusing on applied behavior analysis and authored or co-authored eight books. Denny has served on the editorial boards of 10 journals including as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Behavioral Analysis and Behavior Analysis in Practice. In 2007 he was awarded Fellowship status in the Association of Behavior Analysis International and in 2006 received the AAIDD International Research Award. Hour 2: Adrian Sandler, M.D. is Medical Director, Olson Huff Center for Child Development, at Mission Children s Hospital in. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina. A native of Zimbabwe, Dr. Sandler was educated at the University of Cambridge, England, where he earned his undergraduate degrees and then his medical degree in He did his Pediatrics residency training at Duke University Medical Center, and then completed a 3-year fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Sandler was on the full-time academic staff in the Department of Pediatrics in Since 1994, he has been the medical director of a busy regional multi-disciplinary center for children with disabilities in Asheville NC, where his responsibilities have been largely in program development and service provision. He continues to teach residents and students. Dr. Sandler's research interests have included attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, spina bifida, megalencephaly, autism, and Tourette syndrome. His team published the first clinical trial of secretin in autism. Recent academic interests have included functional outcomes and quality of care for children with special needs, and NIHfunded research on therapeutic use of placebo effects. Dr. Sandler was Chair of the AAP Council on Children with Disabilities. He has been an invited speaker and faculty member at many national and international conferences.
5 NCABA - 3 hour session Wednesday afternoon (continued) Hour 3: Frank Symons, Ph.D. is the Associate Dean for Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. His current interests include the development, assessment, and treatment of problem behavior among children and adults with a range of neurodevelopmental and emotional/behavioral disorders. His specific interests in this area include (a) characterizing self-injurious behavior in more detail descriptively (form, location, intensity) and experimentally (function); (b) examining the intersection of behavioral and biological mechanisms underlying chronic self-injury by incorporating sensory (e.g., pain sensitivity, peripheral innervation) and autonomic (e.g., sympathetic/parasympathetic, HPA axis) nervous system variables, and (c) translating findings from basic research into treatment applications. Another current interest is the problem of pain among children and adults with significant cognitive impairments and associated developmental disabilities. Related areas of specific research include (a) the reliable and valid assessment of pain in children and adults with significant cognitive, communicative, and motor impairments associated with intellectual disability; (b) the relation between behavioral and biological variables as markers for altered pain; (c) modifying/adapting quantitative sensory testing for individuals with specialized needs; and (d) the relation between pain and problem behavior, specifically self-injury. Discuss the broader possibilities of this example of behavior management with other populations and species. The Presenters Hour 1: Wendy Donlin Washington, Ph.D. received her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology for Auburn University under the direction of M. Christopher Newland. She then completed a NIDA post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, working with Kenneth Silverman and Maxine Stitzer. Since then, she has been a professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, conducting research in both Basic and Applied Behavior Analysis. Dr. Donlin's recent research has focused on Contingency Management for health behaviors. She has published papers on applying behavioral interventions to reducing cocaine and heroin use, as well as interventions for increasing physical activity. Hour 2: Ruth Hurst, Ph.D., LP, BCBA-D received an MA in psychology (applied behavior analysis) from Drake University and a Ph.D. in psychology from UNC Greensboro. Dr. Hurst has more than 30 years of experience in the field of behavior analysis working with individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness in Iowa and North Carolina. Dr. Hurst has also worked with the UNC Wilmington MA program in psychology (applied behavior analysis concentration) for 5 years. Her primary interests are behavioral assessment and interventions for severe behavior disorders. She is currently the director of psychology at Central Regional Hospital. Co-presenter: Terrance Adams, BSN, RN is the Unit Nurse Director on the Child and Adolescent Unit at Central Regional Hospital (CRH) in Butner, NC. He has 20 years experience in the psychiatric field with 7 of those years also in the field of Developmental Disability. Mr. Adams has been involved in numerous initiatives within CRH including DDI training, online medical registration, and various nurse education projects. Hour 3: Julie Grimes, Ph.D. earned her PhD in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2005 with an emphasis on the experimental analysis of behavior. Her research focused on the behavioral momentum of reinforced behavior in rats. Her current interest is in applying laboratory findings to the training of companion and exotic animals in captivity. She currently teaches Psychology at Davidson County Community College through both the Social Sciences Department and through the Zoo and Aquarium Science Program. Julie is the Behavior Management Consultant for the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science through her company Animalworks, LLC.

He currently holds a faculty position in the Department of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine. He is a subject matter expert in military cultural competency and he serves as a co-chair of the Military and Veterans Significant Interest Group (MilVet SIG) for the Association of Behavior Analysis International (ABAI).

He is a member of the Vanderbilt Brain Institute, and the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center. He has devoted his career exclusively to research, teaching, and clinical activities in the field of autism and developmental disabilities. His research has focused on the pathogenesis and treatment of autism and related conditions and has been published in a variety of journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, Science, PLoS One, Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, Autism Research, the American Journal of Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities, the Journal of Pediatrics, Brain Behavior Research, and Social Cognitive Affective Neuroscience. His research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since His service activities have included: standing member of the NIH Childhood Psychopathology and Developmental Disabilities Study Section; Editor of Autism: International Journal of Research and Practice, NC Senate Appointee of the Legislative Study Commission on Autism Spectrum Disorders; expert consultant for the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, and faculty member of the International Congress on Movement Disorders. The Presenter Carole Van Camp, Ph.D., BCBA-D received her Ph.D. from Louisiana State University under the direction of Dorothea Lerman, Ph.D. She completed her Internship with University of Florida and The Department of Children and Families, Behavior Analysis Services Program, where she later became Director of Research. She is currently an assistant professor at UNCW. She has published research on the topics of functional assessment and function-based treatments in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis and Behavior Therapy. Her research on caregiver training in child welfare has been published in Research on Social Work Practice. Her current research is in the area of assessment of physical activity in children, and translational evaluations of reinforcer preference and reinforcer strength. Dr. Van Camp is on the Board of Editors of the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, where she has also served as a guest Associate Editor. Dr. Van Camp teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Applied Behavior Analysis. 12 Behavior Management Case Studies in a Zoo Setting Presented by Julie Grimes, Ph.D. Animalworks, LLC & Davidson County Community College Friday, February 13 th, 2015, 1:30pm 4:30pm Describe the types of behavior management issues from various species in a zoo setting that can benefit from the application of behavior analysis. Describe the application of behavior management principles in a zoo setting. Demonstrate the use of behavior management planning on a non-human species. The Presenter Julie Grimes, Ph.D. earned her PhD in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2005 with an emphasis on the experimental analysis of behavior. Her research focused on the behavioral momentum of reinforced behavior in rats. Her current interest is in applying laboratory findings to the training of companion and exotic animals in captivity. She currently teaches Psychology at Davidson County Community College through both the Social Sciences Department and through the Zoo and Aquarium Science Program. Julie is the Behavior Management Consultant for the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science through her company Animalworks, LLC. Workshop Level: Basic If you register on or before January 14 th, 2015 there is a special early registration fee of $55.00 to attend this workshop. There are also special rates available for anyone who would like to attend both this workshop and a pre-conference workshop on Wednesday, February 11 th, 2015 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
