Dr. Malow holds a Master Degree in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis from the University of Michigan. She has served as PI on an NIH/NICHD clinical trial using supplemental melatonin to treat insomnia in children with autism and also as PI on a Health Resources and Services Administration-funded multicenter clinical trial of parent sleep education in children with autism. Her role on this project will be to serve as a mentor, advisor, and expert scientific reviewer. B. Dr. Malow has led the development of a guideline/algorithm to evaluate insomnia in children with autism and is working to disseminate the algorithm at ATN sites. Health Resources and Services Administration Perrin (PI) 04/01/12 08/31/14 Subcontract for Iron Treatment of Sleep Disorders in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Dr. Ann Reynolds, PI) The major goal of this project is to determine the effects of iron supplementation on sleep in children with autism, and the role of restless legs syndrome/periodic limb movements of sleep. 5 The major goal of this project is to pilot a parental sleep education program for children with autism spectrum disorders, measuring the effects of the intervention on sleep, daytime behavior, and parental stress levels.
