Dr. Malow holds a Master Degree in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis from the University of Michigan. She has served as PI on an NIH/NICHD clinical trial using supplemental melatonin to treat insomnia in children with autism and also as PI on a Health Resources and Services Administration-funded multicenter clinical trial of parent sleep education in children with autism. Her role on this project will be to serve as a mentor, advisor, and expert scientific reviewer. B. Dr. Malow has led the development of a guideline/algorithm to evaluate insomnia in children with autism and is working to disseminate the algorithm at ATN sites. Health Resources and Services Administration Perrin (PI) 04/01/12 08/31/14 Subcontract for Iron Treatment of Sleep Disorders in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Dr. Ann Reynolds, PI) The major goal of this project is to determine the effects of iron supplementation on sleep in children with autism, and the role of restless legs syndrome/periodic limb movements of sleep. Role: Site PI Health Resources and Services Administration Perrin (PI) 03/01/09 08/31/12 Subcontract for Parent-Based Sleep Education Program for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders The major goal of this project is to develop and test a multicenter nurse-based parent sleep education program for children with autism Role: Principal Investigator on Project Subcontract. Dr. Malow is the overall PI for this multisite project.

Dr. Malow directs the Vanderbilt Sleep Research Core and is Associate Director of the General Clinical Research Center. Project Director on Administrative Supplement to NIH/NCRR UL1 Measuring Sleep in Autism: Use of Wireless, Comfortable, and Home-Based Tools September 30, 2009-May 31, 2012 NIH/NHLBI RO1-HL DeBaun (PI) 09/01/10 08/31/14 Asthma and Nocturnal Hypoxemia in Sickle Cell Anemia The major goal of this project is to examine the role of asthma and sleep-related breathing on morbidity in children with sickle cell disease. Role: Co-investigator and Director, Sleep Reading Center. Dr. Malow provides centralized scoring of sleep studies for this multisite trial. Autism Speaks Clinical and Translational Research Award Goldman (PI) 02/01/12-01/31/15 Characterization of the Sleep Phenotype in Adolescents and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder The major goal of this project is to define the sleep phenotype in adolescents and adults with autism. Role: Co-Investigator Completed Research Support Autism Speaks Stone (PI) 01/01/08 12/31/10 Autism Treatment Network Clinical Treatment Center The major goal of the project is to establish an Autism Treatment Network site at Vanderbilt to develop standards of care for the medical management of children with autism spectrum disorders.
