NTS and Pre-NTS are highly valued learning and networking opportunities for the JAG National Network in July annually! Orlando is a special treat given the modern meeting facilities and proximity to family-oriented area attractions including: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, Universal Studios, SeaWorld Orlando, Disney s Blizzard Beach, Disney s Animal Kingdom, and much, much more. Keynoters for the general sessions have been invited but will be unable to confirm until May: Governor Charlie Crist (FL); Governor John Baldacci (ME) and Chair of the JAG National Board of Directors; Cameron Johnson, Entrepreneur, Speaker, and Author; Dr. Andy Sum, Center for Labor Market Studies, Northeastern University; State Senator Steve Wise (FL); and, JAG President Ken Smith will preside over the general sessions. The JAG National Network is blessed with talented managers, supervisors, Specialists, board members, educators, business leaders, state legislators and funders to conduct best practices workshops. The goal is for the JAG National Network to apply evidenced-based practices to raise expectations and performance to higher levels. 3 2007 PRE-NTS AND NTS OBJECTIVES To gain new knowledge and skills resulting in improved services to JAG participants. To network with experienced staff members to share solutions and best practices. To share evidenced-based practices to improve JAG methodology, processes and results. To use technology more effectively to capture and manage data to improve decision-making and the quality of services. To examine the organizational and programmatic impact of federal legislation WIA, No Child Left Behind, Higher Education Act. To improve skills that will result in higher employment rates and hourly wages of JAG graduates. To review the newest JAG curriculum modules Valuing Diversity (I-86) and Risky Business (I-87) both funded by The Allstate Foundation. To recognize outstanding performance by JAG-State Organizations and individual staff members. To celebrate the high performers in delivering the best results for the Classes of 2006 and To experience the value of Facing History and Ourselves. To identify new resources, tools and solutions to enhance performance in the classroom, in advising the Career Association and delivering follow-up services. Registration fees also include: Workshop presenters, meeting room rental, equipment rentals, audio-visuals, printing and other hotel and workshop costs, etc. Follow-up documents generated in workshops or are provided by the facilitation team post Pre-NTS. 4 2007 MARKETPLACE EXHIBITS Share your Pride and Best Practices with Peers across the JAG National Network! States are invited to reserve tables (1 to 3) in the exhibit area as an opportunity to share what is working best in their respective state. On the Delegation Registration Form, indicate how many tables should be reserved for your exhibit. Marketplace 2007 will be available for viewing on Saturday morning, July 14. Handouts are encouraged so others can learn from your state s experiences. Marketplace 2007 Exhibits will be judged and awards presented to the top four (4) Exhibitors on Saturday, July 14 at the Closing General Awards Session. Set-up arrangements on Friday will be forwarded to those that participate in the Marketplace Exhibits. TRANSPORTATION FROM ORLANDO AIRPORT TO THE HILTON IN WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT Orlando International Airport (MCO) Approximate driving time to the Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort is 30 minutes; distance is 19 miles. Getting There Taxis ($36 plus) and commercial shuttles ($5-$15) provide transport between the airport and the hotel; prices subject to change. Rental cars are readily available. 5 Pre-NTS Workshops begin at 7:00 pm on Monday, July 9 Workshops conclude on Thursday, July 12 with the Pre-NTS Recognition Luncheon at Noon The Early Registration Fee is $225 per attendee (after June 1 $275) PRE-NTS #1: Leadership and Management Development Program (LMDP) and CSA Business Meeting Invitation Only. Restricted to CSA Representatives Only LMDP Peter Samardak (IBM), Paul Booden (JAG); JAG Ken Smith and Dr. Jim Koeninger The Pre-NTS Workshop will focus on receiving and learning from feedback provided by Stakeholders. LMDP content will be selected on the basis of the overall feedback provided by targeted stakeholders. The CSA Business Meetings will be held on Thursday morning and at Friday and Saturday breakfasts. PRE-NTS #2: Management Development Institute (MDI) New managers and supervisors or those targeted for succession. Elaine Lyman Midkiff, John McConnell and Jason Moore MDI is intended for those with less than two years of JAG experience in field supervision. Workshop team members will learn to manage the JAG Model emphasizing methodology and systems of holding JAG staff strictly accountable using e-ndms and assorted managerial tools. Build relationships with JAG partners and employers. Improve the overall performance and results of low-performing Specialists. PRE-NTS #3: Specialist Professional Development and Improvement Specialists with less than 1 year of experience in a Senior Year or Multi-Year Program Ron Rider and Jenny Powell This workshop will be highly interactive and focus on the ten (10) components and the four Program Applications of the JAG Model. Participants will develop an Action Plan that can be used to implement the JAG Model in their program. Participants will receive a large quantity of JAG materials including The Specialist Handbook and practical tools for delivering JAG Model services. PRE-NTS #4: Middle School Program Development and Improvement Pre-NTS #5: New and existing Middle School Program managers and Specialists. Dave Perron and experienced Middle School Specialists This workshop will provide participants with best practices in implementing and/or operating a Middle School Program based on the JAG Model. Topics to be covered include: school facilities; in-school advisory committee; student selection factors and process; parental contact; student load; Middle School Program Council and Council Advisor; Specialist duties and responsibilities; data system; classroom methodology; National Curriculum; outcomes and standards; transition; follow-up services, etc. Facing History and Ourselves By Invitation Only. CSA Representatives will nominate candidates by April 15. Participants will be notified by May 1. Dan Alba, Los Angeles Regional Director; Eftihia Danellis, Senior Program Associate; and Jean McLaurine, JAG National Director, Technical Assistance Scholarships provided by The Allstate Foundation will be awarded to 35 JAG Specialists to receive world-class training to integrate activities and methodologies of Facing History in Ourselves in JAG curriculum modules. Pre-NTS #6: Out-of-School Program Development and Improvement (OOS) JAG Out-of-School Program Specialists and Managers Liz Cannell, Director, National DOL-OOS Test; Meredith Kober, JAG-OOS Facilitator A hands-on workshop involving an in-depth examination of the JAG National OOS Curriculum, with the objective of developing common benchmarks for measuring competency attainment. Participants will identify practices and products that can be used network wide to ensure consistency in documentation and in practice. Strategies and best practices will be explored to implement the curriculum based on individual characteristics/demographics. Participants should be familiar with the JAG National OOS Curriculum and should have one year of experience in working with Out-of-School youth.
