The Kindergarten classes did a great job of disguising their turkeys. Thank you for all the donations sent to school for families in need. Our TJ families are so generous! Both K & 1 students came together for this month s Music and Movement Class. Lots of fun for everyone! Students have been demonstrating all that they have learned since entering Kindergarten in September as teachers have been busy with assessments. Recognizing letters, sounds, beginning sounds, sight words, rhyming words, numbers, counting and more! It s amazing to see how far they have come in just a short time! If you haven t already started, it s a good time to have your child practice putting on their coats (especially pulling out those sleeves that get turned inside out), zipping and buttoning. If they can already do this independently, now is the time to move on to shoe tying practice. Check out shoe tying practice for kids on Pinterest for some great suggestions. NOVEMBER 24 th, 25 th. 2 1 st Grade: First graders have been reflecting on what they are thankful for in their lives. They have been writing down their ideas as Thanksgiving approaches. It is heartwarming to read the simple things for which they are grateful. Each child is writing a personal narrative and we are beginning to learn how to revise and edit our work to achieve the best final product. Addition is being reviewed as we work on mastering the various strategies. These strategies enable students to build a strong foundation so they can move on to more difficult math skills. Nurse s Message: Flu season is just beginning and the question is have you and your family received the FLU vaccine yet? Several staff members of Thomas Jefferson received their flu vaccines this week during our school district flu clinic. Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Schools are virus exchange systems, and school aged children are highly efficient virus spreaders. Children have the highest rates of infection and the illness can disrupt school attendance and force parents to miss work. It has been shown that high rates of vaccinations among school children can drastically reduce the flu in an entire community. Who should get vaccinated this season? Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season. Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza. Flu vaccination has important benefits and it can reduce flu illnesses, doctors' visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.

3 Flu shots are approved for use in pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions. There are flu shots that also are approved for use in people as young as 6 months of age and up. For the season, CDC recommends use of the flu shot (inactivated influenza vaccine or IIV) and the recombinant influenza vaccine (RIV). First grade lessons focused on friendship and we created a recipe for being a good friend. The three ingredients needed to be a good friend: Being kind, giving compliments and taking turns with each other. The students practiced giving and receiving compliments. In Kindergarten we are focusing on Feelings. This month we discussed anger and how this feeling can often lead to trouble if we do not handle our anger in an appropriate way. 4 PTA NEWS: PTA UPCOMING EVENTS No immediate events planned REMINDERS: The back parking lot that surrounds the church property will be closed off during pick-up at 2:30 pm. This is being done in conjunction with the church for safety reasons. Please make other arrangements. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. REMINDER DROP-OFF IS BETWEEN 8:20-8:40AM. After 8:40am you will have to bring your child to door #1 and sign him/her in. Starting Monday the drop-off lane will close PROMPTLY at 8:40am. As always we encourage everyone to use the Crosswalks at all times and please NEVER DOUBLE PARK. Thank you in advance for your continued cooperation. During morning drop-off we ask that anyone not using the valet service to please use the crosswalks. This is a safety and security issue.
