1 November 2018 Tarawa Terrace Tiger Tales Tarawa Terrace Elementary School 84 Iwo Jima Blvd Tarawa Terrace, NC T: Dear TTES Families, We wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for the participation during the Trunk-or-Treat celebration night. Even in the pouring rain could not keep families from coming out to support TTES. It was great to see so many students excited about getting new books from the book fair. We loved seeing all of our Tigers in their costumes. As the weather continues to turn colder we wanted to provide a few quick reminders about the dress code. We have attached the quick reference guide for your review. Students are not allowed to wear pants that have holes or rips in them. Also, jackets and outerwear are not be work inside the building. As the end of the first quarter has arrived we are reminded of how fast the school year goes by. How about taking a few minutes tonight and enjoying the new book your student picked up from the book fair. Research continues to show a strong correlation between reading and student achievement. Also, please remember to submit documentation when your child is absent. Please also inform the teacher and front office about any previously arranged absences that your student will have. If your child will be absent for more than five days in a row we do require you to have an attendance meeting just to make sure that your child does not have difficulty staying upto-date on assignments. Finally, we have a coffee chat scheduled for 9 November at 0900 and would love for you to attend. At the coffee chat we will be discussing the new DoDEA Blueprint, assessment updates, current events happening at TTES, and our new Facebook page. Thank you again for always supporting your child with their education. We look forward to the continuation of the school year. Sincerely, Leigh Anne Daniel-Faulkner, Principal James Brown, Assistant Principal Upcoming Events November 8 Pre-K Parent Conference Day No school for Pre-K students only November 9 K-12 Parent Conference Day No school for all students Pre-K-12 Coffee Chat: Staff 9:00am 9:30am November 12 Veteran s Day Holiday No school for students or staff November 13 1st Quarter Awards Assembly 9:00- Grades 2/3 10:00- Grades K/1 2:00- Grades 4/5 November 14 Parent Advisory Committee District Field Office TTES Flu *Parent must accompany student November 15 Special Education Advisory Committee 11am District Field Office November Thanksgiving Break November 2018 Tarawa Terrace Tiger Tales Page 1 of 7
2 Nurse s Notes Dear TTES Families, Cold and flu season is upon us. There have been several students and staff already sick with various upper respiratory and stomach viruses. The best way to stay healthy this cold and flu season is to get vaccinated against the flu, eat healthy, exercise, get plenty of rest, and WASH! WASH! those hands. TTES will be hosting a Flu Vaccine rodeo on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 (early dismissal) in the cafeteria from 1:30 to 4:30. All students must be accompanied by a parent. This year your child can only attend the rodeo of the school your child is a student at per Naval Hospital. I have attached the flu screening forms to fill out prior to the clinic. You need one form for each child receiving the vaccine. Be sure to sign the form and bring your ID card with you. Forms will be available at the rodeo also. If you attend the rodeo, you will receive a shot card. I will also be provided the information to update your child s school record. You may also receive flu vaccines from your PCM, Naval Hospital immunization clinic and any available flu shot offerings on base or in town. All flu vaccines must be completed and records turned in to the school by December 1, 2018 to avoid disenrollment. All exemption forms must be re-submitted yearly as well prior to that date. Remember, if your child has any illness which includes fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, please keep them home until they are free of the above symptoms without fever reducing medication for 24 hours. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at the school. Thank You School Nurse Camp Lejeune School Nutrition Services has been approved to continue feeding all students for "Free until November 30. The extension will go into effect immediately. ***As a friendly reminder; each year students must complete a Free & Reduced Lunch Application. A new application must be on file no later than November 30, Information for Tigers K12PaymentCenter (formerly LunchPrepay.com) is a secure, easy and convenient way to apply funds directly to your student's account online. You can even check the account balance and keep an eye on what your student is buying! As an added convenience, parents can receive a Low Balance notification alerting the parent that the student's account will need another payment applied soon. es/logistics/ssb_smp.cfm The link listed above will give you access to the monthly lunch/ breakfast menu, free/ reduced lunch application, and to the online meal prepay site! Failure to meet the deadline will result in the student being placed in the full paid status. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Clyde Thomas or Patricia Bizzell at (910) November 2018 Tarawa Terrace Tiger Tales Page 2 of 7
