NO. the body of epidemiological evidence favors rejec<on of a causal rela<onship between thimerosal- containing vaccines and au2sm. Sources: Ins5tute of Medicine, h8p:// Safety- Review- Vaccines- and- Au5sm.aspx Centers for Disease Control and Preven5on, h8p://

Combatting Misinformation How can we discuss vaccination with parents who have concerns? One strategy is the CASE method Developed by Allison Singer of the Autism Science Foundation to discuss vaccine safety with parents who have questions or doubts regarding vaccination Source: Allison Singer, h8p://

CASE Method Corroborate Acknowledge the parents concern and find some point on which you can agree. Set the tone for a respectful, successful talk. About Me Describe what you have done to build your knowledge base and expertise. Science Describe what the science says. Explain/Advise Give your advice, based on the science. Source: Allison Singer, h8p://

Corroborate I don t think all the vaccines are necessary. I mean, why do we even vaccinate against polio anymore? What do you have in common? I understand why you feel that way. We don t see these diseases very often anymore, so it can be hard to understand why they are necessary.

About Me I don t think all the vaccines are necessary. I mean, why do we even vaccinate against polio anymore? What have you done to educate yourself on the topic? As a Community Health Worker, I spend a lot of time learning about different aspects of health, including vaccination. In fact, I recently attended a webinar on vaccine-preventable diseases, where I learned

Science I don t think all the vaccines are necessary. I mean, why do we even vaccinate against polio anymore? What does the science say? It is because of vaccines that polio doesn t exist anymore. Since the vaccine became available, cases have gone down by 99%. But not all countries have had successful vaccination campaigns. In today s world, polio is really just a plane ride away. Source: PATH, h8p://

Explain/Advise I don t think all the vaccines are necessary. I mean, why do we even vaccinate against polio anymore? What is you recommendation based on science? Given that the risk of diseases like polio still exists, it is very important that all children be up-to-date on their vaccinations. I vaccinate my kids, I want yours to be protected, too.

Scenario 1 PARENT: I think I might want to spread the vaccines out so they don t overwhelm my baby s immune system. How would you respond using the CASE method?

Summary Be compassionate. Share your story. Keep it simple. Be confident. The science is on your side!
