1 USC 5 th International Restorative Dentistry Symposium Techniques & Technologies: Present & Future Friday - Saturday, September 21-22, :30 am - 5:00 pm Davidson Executive Conference Center University Park Campus

2 Welcome Dear Friends & Colleagues: It gives me great pleasure to invite you to the 5 th annual USC International Restorative Dentistry Symposium for In the past 4 years, 44 renowned national and international speakers came to USC to share their knowledge, research and clinical expertise. As many of you have been present at a number of the previous symposia, and have so kindly commented in your evaluations or your personal interactions, I think you will agree that the speakers have done an outstanding job in bringing us relevant, contemporary, evidence-based information that has been valuable and usable to us, the everyday clinical practitioners. This year will be no exception! We have carefully selected a panel of presenters who are among the world s most respected national and international speakers who are opinion leaders, academicians, educators, researchers and innovators. Their charge for 2012 is to bring us information that we can use in our practices as it relates to this year s theme: Techniques & Technologies: Present and Future. By attending you can expect to have a better understanding about what techniques and technologies are the current standards, and what future modalities are on the horizon. The symposium s goal this year is to help our audience make better decisions to provide restorative care for patients in the following topics: Interdisciplinary treatment options and planning Adhesive techniques technologies, and systems Modern orthodontic s role in restorative and esthetic dentistry for adults Occlusal considerations in using the current composite materials Concepts and techniques to obtain optimal gingival esthetics around natural teeth and implants CAD/CAM materials and technologies and their applications in restorative and esthetic dentistry Conservative approaches to ceramic veneer Intra-oral repair of failed restorations As always, there will be time allocated for open discussion between the audience and presenters to complete the learning experience. I look forward to welcoming you in what promises to be a most enjoyable, educational and social experience this September. Until then Respectfully, Abdi Sameni, DDS Symposium Chairman

3 Dean s Message Dear Colleagues: Diagnosis and treatment planning will always be the ultimate skills of the consummate clinician. A dental practitioner must remain technically up-to-date in order to fulfill the treatment plan at the highest level possible. Dentistry has always been a technologically advanced profession, and keeping current with new technical developments has become more daunting in the past two decades. But one should not automatically change treatment modalities and technologies in response to newer innovations; many existing techniques have passed the test of time and will remain in use for many years to come. What one should do is have up-to-date information on what is available so that he or she can make educated decisions based on knowledge of and proper exposure to both the latest advances and tried-and-true modalities. Come join us for the 5 th USC International Restorative Dentistry Symposium for a chance to see and evaluate what other outstanding clinicians use in their daily practice knowledge is always a powerful tool. Avishai Sadan, DMD Dean and G. Donald and Marian James Montgomery Professor of Dentistry Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC

This annual meeting is THE place to be if you want to discover, learn and improve yourself." - Dr. Amir Aalam, Periodontist. Brentwood CA. At each of the three symposia that I have attended I found new information that I found valuable." - Dr. Alvin Rosenblum, General Dentist. Los Angeles, CA. "It was truly a great educational experience to participate and learn in an authoritative and world-class dental conference. Go Trojans!" - Robert B. Gerber, DDS. Los Angeles, CA. I have attended all of the past 4 Symposiums and have found them to be very stimulating and informative. Materials and techniques are continually modified or introduced - this is the place where you learn about what works and does not work to get the best treatment for our patients. This is a must educational experience whether you are practicing or educating. The information is topical and useful for everyday practice. - Dr. Leon Unterman, General Dentist. Los Angeles, CA. For complete photo gallery and testimonials, please visit

9 "The Symposium was great not only for dentists, but also for dental technicians. There were people from all over the world and I was able to talk to them and hear what's popular outside of the U.S. I highly recommend this program to both dentist and the dental technicians." - Mako Inoue, MDT. Torrence, CA. I have been fortunate to have attended the previous four Restorative Symposiums. All of them have been wonderful. I always came away with information that I could apply to my clinical teaching activities. This year s program looks to be the best ever. The lecture subject content and expertise of the speakers makes it a not to miss symposium. I look forward to seeing old friends and students at this years meeting. - Richard Kahn, MDT. Los Angeles, CA. "With the vast array of continuing education courses offered in dentistry, it can be difficult to determine which ones are worth attending. Based on the feedback I have received from doctors and what I myself have observed, I can tell you without hesitation that the USC Symposium is one of the finest programs available. The speakers are world-class, the sessions are informative, and the format is interesting. The Symposium is the perfect venue to be educated, motivated, and inspired. I urge my clients to go every year, and I invite you to do the same." - Jody Much, Account Manager Patterson Dental Supply. Los Angeles, CA.
