How periodontal diseases and oral inflammation have been linked to systemic diseases such as cardiovascular, respiratory, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis/osteopenia and adverse pregnancy outcomes. We will review systemic diseases and their correlation with periodontal disease and implant therapy. Clinical application will be emphasized. 2. Knowing how to correctly diagnose and communicate this to patients is vital and may save lives. When working together with periodontists we are truly improving total body health. 3. The current state of periodontal therapy will be important in understanding how to apply the various treatment modalities tailored to each individual patient s circumstances. 4. Today, dental implants have the potential to be very predictable. Do they really have a better prognosis than natural teeth? When do you give up and remove and replace periodontally compromised teeth with dental implant restorations? Is maintenance of dental implant similar to maintaining teeth?
