Icky first joined the team at Ivory in August 2012 following graduation from the University of Leeds and spent a year with the team during which time she was guided by Geoff Readshaw as her Vocational Trainer. During the last 12 months Icky has been based in hospitals around Manchester, where she has gained invaluable experience in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. Icky said This time has been very challenging yet exciting. This experience has enhanced my patient care in general practice and I cannot wait to put these new skills into practice at Ivory. I am looking forward to upholding the already existing high standards at the practice and I am very happy to be returning. During her time with the practice Icky was well loved by the patients and received high praise for her care and professionalism. Icky intends to continue building on her skills and knowledge in the future and undertaking courses in sedation, implant dentistry and orthodontics. Icky understands and enjoys helping patients who are anxious about dental treatment. She is currently accepting new patients under Denplan or on a private basis, for a limited period only. 2 Something to smile about Team News To mark National Smile Month, the team at Ivory Dental Care recently held a team building day come treasure hunt across the Fylde Coast to raise awareness of the importance of good oral health. Challenges were set for the six teams which involved visiting lots of different locations across the Fylde Coast - from Anchorsholme to Kirkham to Blackpool Town Centre and Lytham to Wesham to Garstang. Along the way the teams raised awareness of National Smile Month to members of the public and the whole team wore the official National Smile Month T Shirts with pride! National Smile Month aims to inspire more people to take on board the three key messages for good oral health: Brush twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste; cut down on how often you have sugary food or drinks; and visit the dentist regularly as recommended. We were proud to be shorted listed from 400 applicants in the Dental Practice of the Year and Dental Therapist of the Year categories, after Claire, our Hygiene Therapist, entered us into the Awards. This is the first time we have entered and although we did not win this time, the team had a great experience, meeting other professionals within the dentistry field. The team were also able to enjoy a few of the London sights including Harrods and Kensington Palace. We are already planning to enter the Awards again next year - so watch this space

We work towards this vision by improving oral health and delivering the best dentistry we can, but recently we have started supporting a local charity that wants to create a better future for children and young people. Aspired Futures provides innovative and unique services for children and young people on the Fylde Coast. Their expertise is to inspire children and young people who may be classified by other agencies as vulnerable and Hard to Reach. They help them fit in with groups by developing social and other skills giving them opportunities to experience activities that they may not normally be able to. Recently our Dental Therapist, Claire Chattell spent some time with the children from Aspired Futures at the Park Road practice. The children were given a tour of the practice and Claire held an interactive group oral health session, explaining how the children could look after their teeth and gums, when they should visit the dentist and what food and drinks can cause tooth decay and which foods and drinks were good for teeth. At the end all the children got a new tooth brush along with stickers, balloons and activity sheets. 5 The Ivory Team: About Me In this issue we focus on our newest (and youngest) team member who joined us in March... Name: Kerry Cavanagh Age: 21 Job title: Trainee Dental Receptionist Kerry was succesfsul in beating over 140 applicants for this new training position in March. Previously, she worked for a recruitment agency in Blackpool. Kerry impressed us at interview with her broad range of skills and understanding of what it takes to provide an excellent service to patients. I love working with such a friendly team at Ivory and it didn t take long for me to feel at home here. I like the fact that you never know what you are going to have to deal with next. In her spare time Kerry is an accomplished ice-skater and loves to travel. Trips in recent years have included Spain, Cyprus and a tour of the Greek Islands. Kerry had never really thought about dentistry as a career option before applying for the position. She said, I would definitely like to explore more options in dentistry as a career; perhaps dental nursing in the future.
