2 Inclement Weather Policy 2 Information for CRC Members If the university is closed or has a delayed opening due to inclement weather, the Campus Recreation Center will open at 10am. Senior & Retiree Masters Membership (55 years & older) Senior's & retirees who purchase this membership will be able to use the Campus Recreation Center from 6:30am 1pm Monday-Friday s as well as our normal facility hours on Saturday's & Sunday's. Members will also have access to the parking lot directly behind the Campus Recreation Center. Membership rates will be as follows: 3 Month Membership- $75 6 Month Membership- $ Month Membership- $200 Senior Fitness Program-New this semester!!! This program offers the older adult population a chance to stay healthy and socialize at the same time. Our fitness staff will provide guidance during this 15 week program from February 15 th - May 13th. This program allows members to attend senior group fitness classes or work with a personal trainer in a group environment. Purchase packages of 10 or 20 sessions which will allow you to attend either option you choose each week. Fees: $50 for 10 sessions or $100 for 20 sessions Group Personal Training: The first session will include a fitness assessment and participants will be given an exercise prescription to carry out with other group members on Monday s, Wednesday s, & Friday s from 7-8am in the CRC fitness center. Group Fitness Classes: These classes will help you stay as young as you feel! Classes are designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion, flexibility, balance, cardio conditioning and functional activity for daily life. Classes will be held on Tuesday & Thursday mornings from 7-8am in our group fitness studios. Biggest Loser 2009 If you are trying to lose weight or just want to live healthier, this 12-week challenge is for you! Monthly weigh-ins will assess your weight, body fat percentage, and waist/hip measurements. Pre/post fitness assessments and a nutritional analysis also available. There will be an emphasis on educational sessions to help participants understand the importance of healthy lifestyle habits including regular exercise and good nutrition. Monthly Weigh-Ins: Tuesday, February 10th 3-6pm Tuesday, March 10th 3-6pm Tuesday, April 7th 3-6pm Tuesday, May 5th 3-6pm All Weigh-Ins will be held at the CRC in the Wellness Resource Room, which is located across from the track on the 2nd Floor. Participation points will be awarded for improvements in your fitness levels as well as participating in certain CRC activities and events. There will be an individual and partner competition this year. Prizes will be awarded to the top contenders in each category!!! Student Competition Faculty/Staff Competition Partner Competition-New This Year!!! Registration fees: Students-$25, Non-Students-$35 Register at the CRC Welcome desk by 2/10. 3

3 Instructional Dance Programs Salsa Dance: Come learn to dance to the spicy hot rhythms of Salsa Dance. This class will be held in Studio 2 on Thursday evenings from 6-7pm for 8 weeks, February 12th through April 9th (with no class on 3/19). All ability levels are welcome. No Partner Necessary!!! Register at the CRC Welcome Desk by February 12th. Ballroom Dance: This year we are offering a beginner & intermediate class. Both classes will be held on Thursday evenings for 8 weeks, February 12th through April 9th (with no class on 3/19). The Beginner Class is designed to introduce you to some popular ballroom dance styles & will be held in from 6:30-7:30pm. The Intermediate Class will focus more on technique and the lead-follow relationship as new steps are explored & will be held in Studio 2 from 7-8pm. Register at the CRC Welcome Desk by February 12th. No partner necessary! Hip Hop Dance: This class will run from 7:00pm-8:00pm in Studio 2 on Tuesdays for 8 weeks from February 10th through April 7th (with no class on 3/17). This class will be instructed by the UMass Lowell Dance Team. Each class will incorporate dance technique drills, choreographed routines, & basic conditioning exercises. Register at the CRC Welcome Desk by February 10th. Ballet-New This Semester!!! Ballet is a form of dance that is both technical & elegant. In this class you will learn how to be light on your feet and look graceful. This 8-week class will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:30pm in and will run from 2/11 4/8 with no class on 3/18. You do not have to wear a leotard and tights, unless you prefer to. It is recommended that you get yourself a pair of ballet shoes. There are different kinds and colors, so choose the pair that best suits you; just make sure they are split-sole shoes! 4 Prices for the above classes: Students $25, Non-Students $40, Non-Members $55 SCUBA Program: Racquetball Clinics: Instructional Programs Continued.., Continued... They will be held in the CRC racquetball courts from 6:00pm-8:00pm. We are holding beginner and intermediate racquetball clinics for each individual s ability level. 4 Swimming Lessons Instructional Continued. Children s lessons are offered at different abilities and adult lesson s are geared for beginners. The Spring Swim Program will run for 8 weeks on Saturdays, from 2/28-4/25 at the Costello Gym Pool with no class on 4/11. The fee is $80 per person. Registration for the Spring Session ends on 3/7. Class size is limited, & many levels have already filled up, so make sure to register as soon as possible! Just come to the UMass Lowell Campus Recreation Center to fill out a registration form & make your payment. 5 Group Fitness Continued... Class Descriptions: Recess: Remember when recess was the best part of your day? It can be again! No grapevines, no dance, choreography, just athletic style training. Combining plyometrics, agility, and strength training, this class will also improve your cardiovascular endurance. Great for all participants as the intensity is 100% participant controlled. (1,2,3) Spin: Group cycling is a great way to make your fitness goals a reality. With no complicated moves to learn, a motivating group environment, great instructors & music that beg your legs to pedal, you ll have a blast while you ride your way to a leaner, stronger body. Rides are appropriate for all fitness levels (1,2,3) Kickbox: A challenging athletic style workout for participants of all fitness levels. Jab, cross, hook and kick your way to a stronger body! A great alternative to the typical group fitness class (1,2,3) Zumba: The newest fitness sensation! Zumba is a cardio-based workout designed for everyone. Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music and dance themes. Routines feature interval training with a combination of slow and fast rhythms to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. Class participants of any level can start with Zumba. Be prepared to move and be moved! (1,2,3) Chisel: Define and refine! This total body conditioning workout will enhance strength and muscle definition. Class may utilize resistance bands, body bars, weights, stability balls and/or steps. Strength training is critical in building bone density. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels! (1,2,3) Ab-Solution: A quick 15 minute gut grinding abdominal tightening workout guaranteed to strength abdominal/oblique muscles, improve posture and prevent lower back injuries. This workout may utilize props such as stability balls, bars, and/or weights. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels. (1,2,3) Fitness Yoga: A friendly, eclectic style of yoga for all levels. Drawing on many traditions, using postures and breath, this class emphasizes the fitness aspects of yoga providing you with an incredible mind/body workout. (1,2,3) Fusion: (55 min) A fusion of pilates, yoga, and dance inspired movements to improve strength and flexibility while defining and sculpting muscles. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels. (1,2,3) Hatha Yoga: A gentle approach blending various styles of yoga to improve flexibility, strength and breathing techniques. This class is wonderful for all levels. Reshape your body and mind! (1,2,3) Group Fitness Continued... GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM This Program is offered to all UMass Lowell students, faculty, & staff who are interested in potentially teaching group fitness classes here at the Campus Recreation Center. There is no cost for this program, however space is limited. This program is run by our Group Fitness Coordinator, Stephanie Powers who will work individually with each interested instructor!!! The training will be segmented by class type and will include a combination of class time & practical training. Attendance in group fitness classes is also expected. The instructor training program will cover the foundations to teach a safe, effective, & fun fitness class. Participants who are interested in applying to become a CRC group fitness instructor may complete a practical & written exam upon program completion. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to become a leader in the fitness field!!! For each class type there will be 2 days of training each week for 2 weeks Training Schedule for Spring Semester TBA! For more information on the GFIT Instructor Training Program Sunrise Yoga: Wake your body gently with sun salutations and nourishing vinyasas. Flow from posture to posture using the breath to guide you. This class will leave you feeling refreshed and ready for your day. This is better than a double latte to start your morning!
