4 August-June Dear Parent of EHS student trainer, Hello and welcome to the EHS Athletic Training family. Your son/daughter has shown an interest in becoming a student trainer, for the school year. The staff trainers would like to take this opportunity to provide you with helpful information regarding the importance of your child s decision to be a student trainer. The purpose of the Athletic Training program is the care, management, and prevention of athletic related injuries. In addition to caring for athletes, the program is designed to provide a basis for any health profession that your son/daughter may be interested in as a career. The commitment from your child to the athletic training program is vital to its success. This means student trainer will be putting in long hours, especially during the fall football season. Once the fall football season is completed the remainder of the school year will not be as hectic, but student trainers will be expected to cover athletic events. Your understanding and cooperation are appreciated as well as vital to our success as health care providers for our athletes. Listed below are our requirements: 1. Students trainers are REQUIRED to be CPR, 1 st -Aid, and AED certified. 2. Student trainers will be working football practices, football and volleyball games during the fall season. Students are responsible for keeping track of game and practice schedules, and hours worked. Schedules will be posted 2 weeks in advance. A minimum of a 48-hour notice is required if the student trainer is unable to work scheduled games or daily practices. Exceptions are emergency situations. 3. Student trainers will be required to BE ON TIME for practices and/or games. Tardiness or failure to show will affect lettering at the end of the school year. 4. Academics and grades are vital to student success and do come first. Any student trainer that is ineligible will still be required to work practices, but will not be able to work games. If prior notice, from a parent is given, student trainers may be excused from practices for study purposes. Ineligibility affects lettering at the end of the school year. 5. Student trainers must have an updated physical on file and parents are required to attend an Anti-hazing meeting
5 6. For communication purposes, the Head Athletic Trainers utilize cell phone contact with students, primarily through texting. Examples include but not limited to: notification of meetings, schedule changes, and general information to be passed on as needed. Occasionally, phone calls are used when a more immediate response is needed. Parents are welcome to contact Mr. Smelser or Ms. Farris if you have any questions. We, the staff trainers, would also like to encourage parental support for the program. This is a thankless job, but one that is extremely challenging and in itself very rewarding. Each student trainer has been provided with requirements to complete over the summer, in addition, we have included phone numbers for your convenience. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at any time. It is our desire to build a strong student trainer program and we are very excited about working with your son/daughter. We thank your for your support and understanding. Thank you, Mr. Smelser, L.A.T. Ms. Farris, ATC., LAT. EHS Athletic Trainer (s) PHONE NUMBERS Mr. Smelser: cell office Ms. Farris office
