1 Geographic Service Area 6 Substance Abuse and Treatment Block Grant (SABG) Strategic Plan Provider: Coalition Name: Target Population: Youth ages Target Community: Maricopa County 1
2 Problem Statement 1: Of youth (grades 8, 10 and 12) in Maricopa County, on average, 27.6% report drinking alcohol. Youth report drinking alcohol at parties, in schools and during unsupervised time periods. Youth report drinking alcohol due to peer pressure, social norming, to cope with life and relieve stress. Problem Statement 2: In Maricopa county, marijuana is being smoked by 16% 8th, 10 th and 12 th graders (on average) in at parties, at homes and during unsupervised times. Youth (and adults) report having a decreased perception of risk of the harmful effects of marijuana use. Goal: Objective: Goal 1: Reduce substance use among youth, 11-20, in Maricopa County. 1.1 Decrease parent attitudes favorable to alcohol use by X% by September 30,. Intervening Variable: Family Norms Strategy 1: Information Dissemination Identify most effective marketing vehicles for target Create marketing campaign with input from youth, and coalition Coalition Sub- Committee Coalition Sub- Committee July 10, August 15, Survey Data Program Evaluators Firm Access to youth and Schools Identified 3-5 marketing vehicles (Radio PSA s, Social Media, Print Media, TV PSA s, billboards, etc.) Created Campaign data to incorporate into media campaign Community Centers 2
