1 Adult Programs and Events 4th Annual Toasty Toes Sock Drive for the Homeless February 1 to 28 During the month of February, members of our community are encouraged to bring new pairs of socks for adults to the library. The donated socks will be given to The Working Centre and St. John s Kitchen, who will then distribute the socks to the homeless in our community. When we started the Toasty Toes Sock Drive back in 2013, it ran for just two weeks and our generous customers stepped up and donated 350 pairs of socks. says Sandi Hall, Marketing & Communications Specialist at WPL. In 2016, thanks to our amazing customers and community partners, over 2,200 pairs of socks were donated! Many of the foot-related afflictions from which the homeless suffer swelling, blisters, skin infections, even frostbite can be avoided simply by wearing new, dry socks. A new pair of socks can make a world of difference to a homeless person trying to stay warm in the winter, or dry in a wet spring, says Hall. While donating socks may seem like a small thing, helping others in our community who are less fortunate is not. Help us reach our goal of collecting 3,000 pairs of socks. Collection bins will be available at all WPL locations for the entire month of February. For more information on the Toasty Toes Sock Drive for the Homeless, visit wpl.ca in January, or contact Sandi Hall at shall@wpl.ca or Ext Winter 2017

Surprisingly, problems with anxiety are even more common than depression and can also present significant quality of life impacts for those diagnosed with them. Join us as we look at how to recognize depression and anxiety, why these conditions can stay with people for so long, and what can be done about them. Mental Health in Childhood Sunday, February 26 Mental health is an important topic for people of all ages. In this session we will answer some of the most frequently asked questions about child mental health. What is ADHD? When does normal shyness become a problem?
