1 The Summer Edition July 2017 Issue 48 MCSC News T h e H o m e o f C o m m u n i t y W o r k 30th Anniversary AGM On the 26th September 2017 MCSC will be holding their 30th AGM quite an achievement I m sure you will agree. We are pleased to announce that their Worships the Mayor and Mayoress of Maidstone will be attending to help us mark this special anniversary. Don Brand helped set up a new company on the 12th August 1986 called Maidstone Community Support Centre. It s role was and still is to be a central hub to promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the community. Today we have 30 charities and community groups utilising the office spaces Through out the main building. Our sessional hire rooms are now conveniently all on the ground floor making them accessible for everyone, we accommodate around 200 different groups each year, with approximately 35,000 people walking through our front door. Hanging Baskets Have you noticed the two new hanging baskets either side of the main front door? These were planted up by Heather. Andrew has the job of watering these each morning using a watering system devised by Heather s husband, this system does not require the use of a ladder. We hope they will continue to brighten up the main entrance for many weeks. Mayor s Visit To the Centre In June MCSC welcomed Maidstone Mayor Cllr Malcolm Greer and the Mayoress Brenda Greer to the Centre. They was given a guided tour by Tad Taberer (CEO) and Peter Cox (Chair) and were informed of some of the many projects and groups that use MCSC.

2 Marsham Street Quilters This is the quilt made by the Quilting Group at Marsham Street for a young lady who is undergoing chemotherapy. As Maddy Sherman explained It was a challenge given for a 121/2 block with purple colouring. We set ourselves a five week limit and we even managed to finish it earlier. We are all very pleased with the result and we wish the young lady a speedy recovery. Car Parking In Maidstone There is an interactive website that will show all the long stay and short stay car parks in Maidstone. If you are holding a group or someone is visiting your organisation, this might be a good idea to tell your guests where they can park. MCSC accepts no responsibility for the accuracy of this external website.

3 Departures & Arrivals MCSC Reception at Dates for your Diary MCSC 30th AGM will be held on the 26th September Laura, our Friday receptionist who has worked at the Centre for the last two and a half years, left at the end of June. We send her our best wishes and wish her good luck in her new job. Evening and Weekend Meet & Greet Michelle and Sally moved onto new ventures at the end of April. We wish them well and Good Luck. Callie and Tanya have stepped into the role and if you see them, please stop and introduce yourself. During this change over, MCSC changed the operating time for the new Saturday morning Meeters & Greeters. Now there is a person in the foyer between 8.30am and 11.00am. We have received excellent feedback since we introduced this additional service in the Autumn last year, and look forward to it s continuing success. If you are a Member Group within MCSC you are always invited to our Networking Meetings and Networking Breakfasts. Other organisations will also use these facilities and it s unfair for them to trawl though the leftover crockery to find a piece of draining board to use. 4 Starting in September 2017 At the Maidstone Community Support Centre, Marsham Street, ME14 1HH Alternate Wednesday evenings 6pm 7.30pm A supportive self-help group for people who have recently separated or divorced. Spread over 7 alternating weeks, each week will focus on a different topic. This will be a structured, supported and themed group. 5 The Caretaker s Cupboard Students Art Work A message from Andrew. A reminder to all our Members who are allowed to use the MCSC Car Parks. 1) Could you please display your parking permit in your screen. 2) Could you please give reception your new details if you change car or come in a different car. If you are a new starter, please ask your manager to give reception these details. We are experiencing a lot of parking problems again and this will allow us to try and locate any unauthorised parkers in a more efficient way. Please remind your visitors that these car parks are not for general use, but advise them of the nearest alternatives. Fobs We have noticed an increase in members of staff using someone else's fob to access/leave the building. Please do not let anyone else use your fob. It has been issued to you, and it is used by MCSC to record you onto the fire register as well as access throughout the Centre. If you have forgotten your own fob, please ask at reception for a day fob to access your office. Art Students from Mid Kent College kindly produced a piece of art work for the Centre. The work depicts the sun and the universe surrounded by Plaster of Paris copies of the painted hands of the students. The art work is about MCSC being at the centre of the community and supporting the diverse communities and organisations that use the centre. This piece of art work now proudly hangs in the Annex corridor. New Member Groups We would like to welcome Working Links to the centre, they joined us in June, and their office is based in the annex. In July we also welcomed ReWrite Your Story to the Centre. There will be more information about both of these organisations on our website and handouts once they have settled in

8 Job Vacancy Here At MCSC Are you a good administrator? A good communicator? Do you enjoy meeting people? Then we would like to meet you. Maidstone Community Support Centre provides affordable office and meeting space, and a range of innovative services for charities and voluntary groups in the heart of Maidstone. We are seeking an adaptable person with wide ranging skills for the post of part time Administrator/Receptionist, to support our busy existing team. The role of Administrator/Receptionist post will cover Monday to Friday, 1pm to 5.30pm, totalling 22.5 hours per week. You will have a range of proven administrative and computer skills as the role is admin heavy while being based at reception. Experience of working within a reception environment would be desirable but not essential. Importantly, the role requires a confident team player and the ability to use their own initiative.
