One is for recording hours worked and the other is to list your name if your need work hours. Please remember to record any hours that you work and sign up to get your hours in. 2 Commodore Scott Day First, thank you for all you do for the Springfield Motorboat Club. We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas with your family. New Board Members The Board is excited and ready for another new year. We want to thank Fred Walraven for his leadership as Commodore for the 2015 season. We also have four new Board members this year. Scott Sheets will assume the duties of Fleet Captain; Bob Krell, Building Director; Steve Todd, Membership Director, and Mike Hamende, Grounds Director. Ann McCaughan will assume the duties of Secretary, as Chris Schwarberg is retiring from this position. Mike Lindsey was appointed to Chair the building project for this year. We also want to thank outgoing board member Doug Smith, for his service as Fleet Captain. Appointments According to By-Laws in Article VI, Section 6.2 the Board of Directors may appoint additional officers to perform duties that are not Board seats. I have appointed a Technology Team led by Mark Kinkaid. Mark has an immense amount of technology experience with the State of Illinois and is an Access expert. Mark will be assisted by Jim Corrigan (Past Commodore) and Chris Loftus. The technology team has been working on a new club website, upgrading our computer, and our membership database. We hope to unveil the new website at the January meeting. Our goal is to provide a password-protected area for members only. The member s only area will supply you with the monthly online newsletter, calendar of events, dining room specials, and the SMBC member directory. The directory will be updated each month when we bring in new members. The website will also have a public area of general information with directions to the club, the application process, calendar of events, and the history of the club. Stan Rich (Past Commodore) has been appointed as Parliamentarian for the membership meetings. His role will be to assist the Board in By-Law procedures and to clarify any questions as they may arise from the Board during the meeting. We thank Stan for agreeing to take on this new role, as well as, serving as our representative on the Council of Clubs. Boat Slips As you may recall, back on March 5, 2015 the membership approved the construction of new slips. The membership gave the Board approval to add a second set of slips. At the time, the Board determined to only build one set of six and to add the additional set the following year. We are now ready to add them, as we have six members who are sending in checks for the new slips. Fabrication on the new set of six could begin after the holidays as the weather has been mild this winter. Restroom Project Mike Lindsey has done a great job in leading the design phase of the project. As this point, Mike is working with Evan Lloyd to get drawings set. The next step will be to get bids for the cost of the project. Once we have a bid accepted and an accurate cost of the project, we will schedule fundraising events to help lower the amount each member will be assessed. Mike will present regular reports at each membership meeting. We wish you a new year of happiness and good health. Hope to see you at the club soon.

3 Vice Commodore Greg Hamende The Christmas Dinner Party was a huge success...thanks to Patti and Chuck Broers for chairing the event. The Holiday Brunch/Childrens Christmas Party again was a success...thanks to Sue Semon and Mike Hamende for chairing this event...and special thanks to Santa for stopping by with his bag of goodies. And always thanks to Jimmy, Cindy and staff. Looking ahead... The Club will be closed from January 1st thru the 15th. The Frozen Open is on Saturday January 16th...check the bulletin board for details. For February it looks to be a busy month... The Superbowl Party Sunday, February 7th...details to follow. The Valentines Day Dinner Saturday, February 13th...details to follow. The Chilli Challenge Sunday, February 21st...details to follow. The Boat Show at the Fairgrounds February 26-28th... Again these events will be posted on the club bulletin board along with being sent to your . Have a great month and see you at the club. Fleet Captain Scott Sheets Fleet news: The 2016 Dock Committee will consist of five members: Scott Sheets, Shane Hedge, Jim Rapps, Larry McVey, and Steve Thoma. Congratulations to Larry Pemberton (dock 44) for earning the Dock of the Year Award. To date, the club has received 22 of 30 signed 2016 Lease Agreements. If you have requested a lease agreement please return the signed lease agreement to SMBC or the slip will be re-opened for lease. If anyone is interested in leasing a slip, please sign up for a slip on the Lease Slip Waiting List located in the back hallway by the card room or contact Fleet Captain Scott Sheets or Commodore Scott Day. Dock # 35 is for sale for $2, If interested in purchasing this dock, please contact Scott Sheets via ssheets1@att.net. Section 9.4, Article K of the By-Laws was again a topic of discussion at the December 16, 2015, Board meeting. In accordance with Section 9.4, Article K of SMBC By-Laws, it states: No member shall retain ownership of a boat dock unless they own a currently licensed boat (licensed by the Illinois Department of Conservation and the Department of Public Property [or its successor] of the City of Springfield), and NORMALLY keep their boat in this dock during the period between Spring Workday and Fall Workday. A boat owner s boat must display the licenses no later than June 30 of each calendar year, UNLESS previous arrangements have been made with the Board of Directors. The club has been tolerant of these violations for years; however, due to club growth there is a large waiting list for dock space. Due to the long waiting list this rule will be enforced. If members have questions or concerns, please contact the Fleet Captain or any member of the Board of Directors for assistance.

4 Reminder that SMBC has plenty of upcoming holiday activities to take part in and we hope to see you all there. The Springfield Boat Show will be held February 26-29, 2016 at the Illinois State Fair Grounds, Orr Building. If you would like to volunteer to be a host in the club s booth please contact Scott Sheets or Steve Todd. Grounds Director Mike Hamende The club will need to have the tree removed near the corner of the bay room by the Coke machine due to rot. The estimated cost is $1500. This year on the grounds we are thinking of relocating the flagpole on the grounds to the point by the beach for improved visibility. We could cut expenses if members could help with mowing and lawn maintenance to get work hours in. Just call me or talk to me at a membership meeting. I can be reached at Building Directors Bruce Oberreiter & Bob Krell Starting January 2 nd -15 th we will be looking for volunteers to help freshen up the Bay Room. With the amount of traffic in our club, we want this area to look its best and stand out as the place to hold an event. We will start by caulking the warped areas on the paneling to fill the exposed gaps, paint the crown molding and widow trim and then put on a fresh coat of paint on the walls. Then we will either repair or replace the doors on the 3 storage closets as well as replace the door knobs on those doors. Once those items are completed, we will need help moving tables and chairs out of the bar and dining room to the tile area of the bay room so the carpets can be cleaned. Then the following day, we will need to move the tables back so a fresh coat of wax can be applied to the VCT tile in the Bay Room. Sounds like a lot to do in a short amount of time, but we can pull it off. Thanks for your support Bob Made plans for kitchen projects, working on prices for new steam table and deep fryer.
