1 Next Meeting: Saturday, January 19 9AM NEW MEETING LOCATION: CLOVER CENTER FOR ARTS AND SPIRITUALITY 1101 CLOVER STREET, ROCHESTER, NY Board PRESIDENT Diane Schmitt st VICE PRESIDENT National Seminars Marlene O Keefe okeefe1943@yahoo.com 2nd VICE PRESIDENT After Meeting Projects Mary Jane Thaney maryjane.thaney@gmail.com SECRETARY/NEWSLETTER Betsy Ogles bogles@rochester.rr.com TREASURER Gladys Richardson MEMBERSHIP Diane Fiorentino diane1mf@yahoo.com WEBSITE MANAGERS Barb Fragale & Betsy Ogles bfragale12344@aol.com bogles@rochester.rr.com Hello painters, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas. FCDA had their annual Christmas party at the Fireside Grill. I think all will agree that we had a good time. Mary Jane had a fun game to play. Barb Fragale awarded $15 in painter bucks to the one with an ugly sweater or cute one (I am not sure). However, I did win with my snowman shirt. Thanks Barb! Barb also presented returning board members with beautiful bracelets she made herself. It seems that only yesterday we were awaiting the millennium. Here we are now entering With a new year there is so much to look forward to. It is like a clean slate and we get to fill it. Our second vice pres. Marlene O Keefe will be booking Arlene Linton for our April retreat. Second vice pres. Mary Jane Thaney is also busy planning after meeting projects for us. As you know we lost our meeting place at the Legacy. The board has been busy looking for a new location and one has been found. We will now be meeting at The Clover Center which is located at the corner of Highland Avenue and Clover Street. It is part of the Baptist Temple. Betsy and I toured the rooms available and the one on the ground level is perfect. We were fortunate to have a meeting space for the last two years at no cost. Though we will now have to pay a rental fee for this space, we are again fortunate that the Clover Center is giving us a reduced rate at $65, discounted from $100. It is easy to get to as it is right off 490. As a reminder: if you have not paid your national or chapter dues, please get those in. With the New Year upon us let us make this a great year! Our group may be small, but we have an abundance of talent within. If you would like to share some of that talent, make this the year to do it. Remember, keep those brushes moving. Diane Schmitt, President 1

She belongs to an Audubon group that has meetings there. Because of her connection, we have been offered a discount on our meeting space. Many groups use the Clover Center for their meetings. As the director, Curt, described to Diane and me when we toured the location, the members of the Baptist Temple are musically and artistically inclined. They are doing a lot to promote arts and music. The space was welcoming and feels right for our group. As Curt explained, they are trying to expand their art offerings, and will have a Craft Day on Tuesdays beginning in February. Craft Day will be a free class that people can come and go from and work on various craft projects. They would love to include us if anyone is interested in setting up decorative painting on these Tuesdays. The Center also offers classes on a variety of subjects including watercolor, figure drawing, meditation, yoga and other things. Information is all posted on their website All the groups who meet in this center have a link on the Center s website. As well, they publish a quarterly newsletter that describes what each group is doing. It is our hope that with other artistically inclined people, we may create some interest in our group and gain some new members. There is access to sinks, restrooms, and kitchen areas down the hall from the conference room. They are also willing to clear some space for us in an unlocked closet, so we will be able to store table covers, coffee pot and accessories, but nothing expensive. The lighting in the conference room is not very bright. You may want to bring a work light with you for working on painting projects. There is plenty of parking. As you pull into the grounds, the meeting space is right up front on the left side of the building. You can park in the lot just across from this entrance. It is very easy to access. DIRECTIONS: See map on page 1. Of note, if you are traveling on 490 EAST to reach this location, you can exit on Penfield Rd (Exit 22). Turn right on Penfield Rd. At stoplight, turn right onto East Ave. A few feet ahead is another stop light at Clover Street. Turn left onto Clover and the Center is just ahead on the right. If you are traveling on 490 WEST to reach this location, you will exit at Linden Avenue. (You cannot exit onto Penfield Road coming from this direction). Turn Left onto Linden Ave and proceed to East Avenue. Turn right on East Ave and continue until you reach Clover Street. Turn left on Clover and Center is just ahead on right. Betsy 2
