2 Cwmbran Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care Could you help make a difference to the lives of cancer patients and their loved ones in your community? At Tenovus Cancer Care our aims are simple. We want to help prevent, treat and find a cure for cancer. We do this by offering support, advice and treatment to cancer patients and their loved ones. We also promote healthy lifestyles and fund cancer research to find new ways to prevent it, diagnose it, and treat it. We do this where it is needed most - right at the heart of the community. But we need you to help us. We re looking for new members to join our brilliant Cwmbran Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care Fundraising group and help plan events and activities in the community. You don t need any experience, we ll give you all the help and support you need, plus it s really flexible; you could give just a couple of hours once a month! 4 Sport Wales Community Chest Grants Open to Applications Across Wales Groups across Wales can apply for grants to support projects which increase participation and improve the standard of sport in Wales. Sport Wales runs the Community Chest grants scheme in partnership with the 22 local authorities in Wales. A wide range of organisations including youth clubs, community groups, sports clubs and associations can apply for the funding as long as they have a bank account in their organisation's name. Grants of up to 1,500 will support local projects in Wales. Examples of eligible activity include: Projects that deliver increased participation and improve standards. Additional equipment to support growth in membership or increasing standards. Coach education and volunteer development. Initial facility hire and instructor costs for new sessions (up to 20 weeks or sessions). The Community Chest grants are administered locally by the following local authorities: Bridgend County Borough Council. City of Cardiff Council. Newport City Council. Isle of Anglesey County Council. Torfaen County Borough Council. Conwy County Borough Council. Neath Port Talbot Borough Council. Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. Monmouthshire County Council. Carmarthenshire County Council. Vale of Glamorgan Council. Caerphilly County Borough Council. Denbighshire County Council. Flintshire County Council. Pembrokeshire County Council. Powys County Council. Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. City of Swansea Council. Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. Ceredigion County Council. Gwynedd County Council. 5 Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation - New Social Group Did you, your wife or husband work in any department of the coal industry? The Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation (CISWO) supports social groups throughout the former South Wales coalfield area and is starting a new group in the Torfaen area. The groups carry out a number of activities including; quizzes, very light exercises, guest speakers, in most cases a game of Bingo or just a chat and a cuppa. CISWO also offers the groups two free day trips, the venues decided by the groups. CISWO supports people who worked in the former South Wales coalfields, their spouses or partners. Some of our services include; free and confidential home visits, benefit checks, help with application forms and advice on disability issues and mining related diseases. CISWO also run a holiday hotel, Court Royal, in a prime position on the Bournemouth seafront at subsidised not-forprofit rates. WE WILL BE MEETING ONCE A MONTH TO DISCUSS ISSUES AFFECTING YOUNG PEOPLE. The youth Led Grants Panel award funding to youth volunteering inspired projects in Torfaen and we are looking for young people who are interested in being part of the decision making process for the grant's applications. 8 Gwent Police Volunteer Cadets - Police Cadet Unit Leader in Gwent Police Area Cadet Unit Leaders are required to attend a unit of their choice once a week for 2 hours and deliver prearranged and planned lessons. They will be provided with all resources to deliver the training and also mentored in their early days. There will be leaders meetings once a month which they are invited to. As leaders they are also able to gain DofE qualifications and CVQO qualifications at no cost to themselves. There are also opportunities to accompany cadets on trips in the UK and abroad at a cost to themselves. TRAC 2 General Volunteer Retail assistant, refreshing stock, accepting and sorting donations, till work, collection/delivery, operative assisting with delivery and collection of donations, office administrationanswering telephone, creating leaflets, taking messages, assisting outreach organisations. VOLUNTEERS WANTED! Able Radio General Volunteer Able is a social enterprise using media and creativity to improve the lives of people with life-limiting conditions and learning disabilities. Volunteers assist all participants with various activities ranging from Crafts and Sports to Music and Media including, of course, Radio experience. At all times the needs of our participants are paramount and the role of the volunteer is to assist and enable them all to have the best experiences possible whilst at Able. Pontypool & Blaenavon Heritage Railway Volunteer Catering Department: On board buffet - food & drink preparation and sales Refreshment Room - table clearing and cleaning, sandwich and hot food preparation, hot beverage preparation and use of the till are a few examples. It is very satisfying not least because there are frequently complimentary comments made about the freshly made snacks. Operations, Permanent Way, Diesel, Steam, Carriage & Wagon, Civil Engineering, Signal & Telegraph Departments all have a wide variety of opportunities. Can you help us make our museums more attractive to young people? We are looking for creativity, fresh ideas and most importantly your voice - to speak up and influence decision making at Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales.
