1 EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEERING Sanofi employees volunteer their time, energy and talents through programs that benefit communities in need. By organizing local initiatives and participating in the sanofi season of solidarity, employees make a difference and contributes to their communities. I. GLOBAL INITIATIVES 1. Season of Solidarity Sanofi encourages employees commitment and calls on their generosity during humanitarian crises, or to support access to healthcare for disadvantage populations. If they so wish, employees can apply their personal expertise and take on a one-off or even a long-term commitment by volunteering for or partnering with a solidarity project. For the last five years, all sites and affiliates have been involved in the Sanofi Season of Solidarity, an annual international event dedicated to solidarity, giving employees an opportunity to meet partner associations and organize solidarity activities for their benefit. In 2016, the focus was on organizing activities for children who are sick, underprivileged or who are living with a disability. Employees had the option of partnering with an external organization, or with Enfants de Sanofi, an internal not-for-profit organization that provides support to employees children with medical, educational or social needs. For more information, see the Enfants de Sanofi Annual Report in our Download Center. During the Season of Solidarity, many initiatives and events are organized across Sanofi affiliates with the active contribution of employee volunteers. Below we list examples of country initiatives organized in JAPAN A collection of Christmas presents and cards were offered to hospitalized children during the Christmas season. RUSSIA Employees from the Moscow offices and the Orel industrial plant actively participated in various initiatives: solidarity breakfasts, auctions, and online sales of handmade crafts. More than 180 employees prepared traditional dishes and applied their talents to creating handicrafts. A Miracle Tree charity, which included a drive to collect toys and gifts, was organized on behalf of 300 children from orphanages in Moscow and the Orel region as well as the Russian Pediatric Hospital of the MOH of the Russian Federation. published in May 2017 Page 1 of 5
2 HUNGARY One of several events organized as part of Solidarity Season, the Santa Shoebox Drive delivered carefully-packed gifts to 150 children at the Homeless Kindergarten run by the John Wesley Theological College and the Aranyhíd (Golden Bridge) Children s Home. A total of 150 employee volunteers took part. Moreover, to support the World Day of People with Disabilities, 400 employees attended a charity fair of gifts and handmade crafts created by different shelter workplaces. The Solidarity Season also provided an opportunity to launch a new initiative in 2017 focusing on storytellers visiting children s hospitals. Throughout the year, employee volunteers will spend time reading stories to hospitalized children. More than 120 employee volunteers Main contact for families worldwide 25 volunteers Sponsorship Committee & Board Members Ad Hoc employee volunteers Fundraising initiatives and organization of collective events Since its creation in Enfants de Sanofi 39,000 CHILDREN HAVE PARTICIPATED IN COLLECTIVE ACTIONS 3,000 FAMILIES FROM 77 COUNTRIES HAVE RECEIVED INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT 8 million ALLOCATED BY THE COMPANY 1.6 million DONATED BY EMPLOYEES Helping employees children Enfants de Sanofi is a non-for-profit organization under the French law funded by both Sanofi and employees. Its purpose is to help employees children who are experiencing difficulties such as medical problems, social troubles or educational difficulties. This program provides individual support to families worldwide. It also carries out collective actions within Sanofi subsidiaries, which are tailored to meet local needs through health programs and education & awareness campaigns. Enfants de Sanofi supports employees children up to age 25 by responding to individual requests in four areas: Health: Medical costs reimbursed poorly (or not at all) by local medical insurance companies Expenses related to disability: Rehabilitation centers, specialized institutions, medical devices, prostheses, etc. Family support: In case of social or economic difficulties, help with child care and other support Education: Covering education fees, school canteen, etc. A strong network of volunteers is involved in the program, in addition to their professional responsibilities. Support for Venezuela For the past two years, Venezuela has been experiencing a severe political and economic crisis, which intensified in the last months of Enfants de Sanofi was mobilized and made an urgent donation of US$35,000 to provide non-perishable food boxes and school supplies for 250 children of employees and families. By the end of the year, a special call for in-kind donations was launched with the participation of countries in Latin America, the United States and four Sanofi sites around Paris. Toys, personal hygiene products, clothes, shoes and baby food were collected from employees. Latin American affiliates organized a drive to collect toys, providing the opportunity to give a personalized gift for Christmas. In France, thanks to the involvement of several teams and the contribution of employee volunteers, eight pallets containing 1036 kg of goods were sent to Caracas. In addition, Sanofi Pasteur donated 191 doses of Adacel and 85 doses of Hexaxim for the vaccination of employees children. For more information, see the Enfants de Sanofi Annual Report in our Download Center. published in May 2017 Page 2 of 5
3 II. LOCAL INITIATIVES India An online portal for employee volunteering, provides many choices of causes and NGOs. The first pilot on the platform was launched in one Sanofi location. Sanofi India offers 10 working hours to employees to participate in volunteer projects. In 2016, 72 employee volunteers enrolled in activities on behalf of 56 NGOs. in New Jersey took part in local initiatives in 2016 representing a total of 32 projects, 457 volunteers and 1,529 hours for the year. In addition to volunteering through programs organized directly at Sanofi, employees may sign up individually or in a team to volunteer for local organizations during their working hours for up to two days per year. The Cybergrants platform gives employees a chance to discover opportunities (such as year round and Season of Solidarity) to volunteer, or to apply for a matching gift. In the case of skill-based volunteering, which is less common, employees donate their skills during working hours or on a voluntary basis after work. As part of a mentoring program currently under development with Raritan Valley Community College in New Jersey, Sanofi employees will act as mentors to students. Sanofi Employee Resource Group (ERG) mentorship program Australia / New Zealand In 2015, Sanofi Australia / New Zealand launched an employee volunteering program, Community@ANZ, a Community Council. All volunteering is coordinated and approved through the Council. The Council will also help fund activities that assist staff fundraising efforts, promote volunteering or support a cause. In Australia and New Zealand, staff can apply for two types of volunteering: One volunteering day per year and/or Project volunteering, local or overseas (limited and by application) The Community Council is a real example of staff diversity as we have representatives from in the field to head office, senior managers to early career, long serving staff to new Sanofi recruits and from all entities. This diversity has brought new ideas, different experience and healthy debate and creativity to our governance and execution. The Council meets monthly and reports against KPIs, ensuring accountability. In 2016, 38 employees volunteered one day to support initiatives for seven organizations. United States Sanofi employees in the United States can choose from three different ways to volunteer. One-shot volunteering is the most common form (for example: team-building activities, Season of Solidarity). Sanofi employees Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are employee managed, company-supported groups comprised of employees who share an affinity, a common background or a similar set of experiences and their supporters. ERGs are: Championed by executive sponsors and key stakeholders from across the business Serve as a business resource while supporting employee engagement through line-of-sight business learning, access to senior leadership, professional career development and networking opportunities The ERG mentorship program, available to all Sanofi employees in the US, pairs mentors with mentees to foster personal and professional growth. CancerConnect: Providing resources and support to employees affected by cancer. The driving force for the CancerConnect Group is to provide information and support to our employees, their family members and friends that have been affected by cancer. Sanofi Genzyme Give Program GIVE is a program of worldwide scope and local focus that recognizes and values the impact of team volunteerism. Through GIVE, Sanofi Genzyme provides unrestricted funds to nonprofit organizations based upon employee volunteer involvement. GIVE supports teams of 4 or more Genzyme employees who volunteer or fundraise for the benefit of a charitable organization. GIVE grants are calculated based upon the total number of employee volunteers, volunteer time and/or amount fundraised, and gifted directly to the nonprofit. Through GIVE, teams can also experience Team Building Volunteer Opportunities. In the US, Sanofi Genzyme partners with over 90 local nonprofit organizations who are making a positive impact on the communities. In 2016 in the US, 505 employees were involved in volunteer activities in more than 27 events with local communities partners. Czech Republic and Slovakia: More Than Words Can Say Program Since 2013, an online portal, More Than Words Can Say, supports the volunteer activities of the employees at Sanofi Czech Republic and Slovakia. Employees can engage in a wide range of activities at non-profit organizations paint a fence at a children s home, prepare a fun program for children with disabilities at a daycare center or bake Christmas sweets for a charity bazaar. In 2016, 131 employees signed up for volunteer events and supported 12 non-profit community organizations. Ireland: Partnership with Junior Achievement This school outreach program brings non-teachers into classrooms to deliver age-appropriate programs in subjects across STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) as well as in more basic, primary-school level skills such as literacy and numeracy. The program also supports the personal development of the young people who participate as they get 'hands on' experience and meet professional role models to inspire their future careers. Through a partnership with Junior Achievement Ireland, 29 employee volunteers participated following up 451 students from primary to second level. Sanofi China Volunteering Groups Sanofi China develops employee volunteer groups that are active across the country impacting children of communities around sites. Through partnerships they interact with local non-profit organizations in the field of access to better education in remote areas, avoiding exclusion to children affected by AIDS, accompanying children with cancer, or sponsoring homeless children. In 2016, nine initiatives gathering 311 volunteers took place in different areas, targeting 3,290 beneficiaries. GIVE Volunteer Portal, is a platform resource for employee volunteers. This site makes it easy to submit and search for volunteer opportunities in the community, connect with other Sanofi Genzyme volunteers, and apply for GIVE grants online. published in May 2017 Page 4 of 5
5 The KidStrong program targets migrant children s health. In volunteer supported activities including regular health lessons; providing supplemental nutritious food and hygiene products; providing free eye exams and prescription glasses; and supporting free dental checkups and dental treatment. About 600 migrant children benefitted from this project last year. Philippines: Blue Hands Employee Volunteer Group In 2016, the beneficiaries were patients abandoned by their families from the charity ward of the National Center for Mental Health. Twenty employee volunteers organized games and served lunch for 150 patients. After the event, hygiene kits donated by the employees were distributed to the patients. Each employee donated five working hours to serve the cause. For more information about Sanofi s Communities Strategy, see the Local Social Impact Factsheet in our Download Center.
