4 It is roughly the size of France Goes from Haida Gwaii to the Alberta border and from Quesnel to Fort Nelson There are 6 Child and Youth Mental Health teams, 4 Aboriginal Child and Youth Mental Health teams, 4 contract services including Intersect in Prince George

6 A service Delivery Meeting was held in March 2009 to discuss the implementation of IMH in the North 6 Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) team leaders and 7 interested CYMH clinicians attended

8 The CYMH clinicians were self-selected and had received at least some of the provincial training At the end of the 2 day meeting, it was agreed that each CYMH office would have 1 clinician dedicate 25% of his/her caseload to IMH The clinicians were encouraged to build community partners as well

9 Bi-weekly video conferences were held to support the IMH clinicians as they began to develop capacity in each of their communities After many technological difficulties, we moved from video conferences to teleconferences. We continued to meet biweekly throughout Since then, we have developed a Northern IMH Community of Practice which meets monthly by phone

11 What is working Good connection with other agencies Space is available in the community to meet families What are some of the current needs Psychiatric services (although Telehealth is now available) Not always appropriate to see clients in government office

13 What is working New staff members are interested in learning about IMH Psychiatric consults are regularly available What are some of the current needs Turnover of staff and philosophical differences in practice between CYMH and community partners

15 What is working Full CYMH team now in the Hazeltons, great networking with Aboriginal community parnters Pediatrician available in Smithers, other community resources available Parenting café, postpartum depression group What are some of the current needs Finding a parenting program that works

17 What is working Intersect is the largest CYMH team in Northern BC IMH monthly consultation group with community members Has both psychological and psychiatric services available Has full-time IMH clinician, offers a variety of parenting programs What are some of the current needs Lengthy waitlist

19 What is working Very active Early Childhood network, ongoing workshops being offered in the community: postpartum depression training and Nathan Ory Incredible Years and other parenting programs offered regularly Regular psychiatrist visits What are some of the current needs Limited time available

21 What is working We have 2 teams: Ft. St. John and Ft. Nelson and Dawson Creek and Chetwynd Psychiatric services are available One clinician in FSJ has a full IMH case load; new clinician in Dawson Creek has expressed an interest in IMH Good connection with CDC in FSJ What are some of the current needs Need to reduce the current IMH caseload in FSJ On-going training issues Developing parent programs that meet the needs of the communities

23 Culturally infused perspective Parenting programs that fit the diversity of rural and remote communities Professional and cultural networking in each of the communities Creative ways to continue to develop and promote IMH in the North and to provide ongoing training

25 NANA Northern IMH CoP Continuing to develop a service model that is effective in rural and remote communities Remaining respectful of parents/caregivers and supporting them while respecting confidentiality and the challenges of dual relationships within many of our small communities

27 Putting a regional plan to develop a comprehensive approach to screening, assessments, and treatment plans for IMH Providing case consultation and resource sharing during CoP meetings Developing opportunities for IMH training at a local level Promoting best practice

29 A variety of parenting programs including Incredible Years, Child Parent Relationship Therapy, and Parenting From The Inside Out Clinicians using Watch, Wait, and Wonder with caregiver and child Developing How does your engine run? programs in some of the communities including Prince Rupert and Fort St. John Participating in local community events
