Build women health, education, social and economic value projects. 3. Membership Recruitment targeting a growth rate in line with ZI directives. 4. Membership Retention & Rejuvenation Program - art appreciation, gourmet eating, learning programs for existing members. 5. Engaging existing members from different industries in experience sharing at business dinners. 6. Engaging prominent market leaders to talk to members on current public affairs or community issues. 7. Build more projects to nurturing existing Z and Golden Z clubs. Zonta Club of Kowloon History Founded in 1977, Zonta Club of Kowloon was the second club chartered in Hong Kong and celebrated its 35th anniversary in We are going to celebrate our 40 th anniversary in November The Club is a member of Zonta International, a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. Since its establishment, Zonta Club of Kowloon has been dedicated to serve our communities for achieving the objectives of Zonta International. We have supported a variety of community projects through partnership with service organizations that will benefit women in distress, abuse victims, the elderly, handicapped and underprivileged. We share a commitment to helping our communities and to improving the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women worldwide. 2
3 Zonta Club of Kowloon was awarded the Bronze Certificate under the new CONVICTION-COMMITMENT- COURAGE Membership Recognition Program of Zonta International in recognition of our Club's efforts and success as a SOM Club in organizing Zonta Club of Macau. 6 Service Projects: 1) Past Service Projects Conducted The Club has been working on following projects: a) HPV vaccination to the underprivileged girls Our Club delivered a women health HPV vaccination project from 2014 to Our contribution to women's health was recognized by the government's Labour and Welfare Bureau. Our HPV vaccination project, delivered in collaboration with the Hong Kong Women Doctors' Association, the Hong Kong SKH Welfare Council and drug firm MSD had been benefited hundreds of young women. b) Love Connection We launched an 18-month project from April 2016 April named Love Connection to help teenage girls in handling relationship and emotional issues with boys. In collaboration with the Hong Kong SKH Welfare Council, our funded programs serve to impart positive attitudes and values to teenage girls facing with relationship problems and sexual demands, and in the longer term, serve to lessen incidences of teenage pregnancy and life-long emotional/psychological damage. 6
7 2) Current Services Projects a) Hong Kong Cancer Fund for Breast Cancer Survivors The Club donated funding to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund in March The charitable donation, designated to the 'Keep Moving' Project, is to assist breast cancer patients in achieving body and mind wellbeing. From April - July 2017, they would receive in-depth education through workshops and physical exercise to minimize the adverse side effects of the disease and treatment e.g. fatigue, upper lymphoedema, hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety, depression, etc. We are doing a research of splitting the selected patients into 2 groups. One group will do exercise at the gym and another group will do exercise at home. The research will be conducted by the Active Health Clinic, Institute of Human Performance of the University of Hong Kong which will contribute to the professional aspects and the assessment of the quality of life and health conditions of the participants at the end of the project. b) Mindfulness Centre for drug addicted inmates The Club donated funding to the Correctional Services Department of the HKSAR Government to build a Mindfulness Centre in Nei Kwu Correctional Institution for the drug addicted inmates at the Hei Ling Chau Island Prison. 7
8 Advocacy Projects: 1) Continued Advocacy Projects a) Launch of our 1 AM Apps Project We collaborated with the Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women ( ACSVAW ). The 1AM App is a mobile application that can be freely downloaded for both iphone and Android. It was launched in March 2016 and is intended as an ongoing project. Through this app, women can key-in details of their support group to seek help. Through GPS, the App can show location of nearby hospitals and police stations for seeking urgent assistance. Fake calls and loud buzzer can also be set up to attract attention. There is also survival information for victims, including reporting to Police, medical and judicial procedures. This App is actively promoted in secondary schools and tertiary educational institutions by ACSVAW which our Club is supporting. Membership: Retain, Recruit and Rejuvenate (to get new members and retain quality members): a) New Members recruited for New Members Margaret Leung inducted in July 2016 & Grace Kwok in April
9 b) Members Retention & Rejuvenation Programs i. Our Fellowship Committee organizes various types of members activities in order to build our Zontian fellowship spirit. We recently visited 3 Museums and organized many fellowship gatherings: a. 30 July 2016 Lang Shi-ning Media Art Exhibition at City University of HK. b. 15 Oct 2016 to University of Hong Kong on Painted Ceramics of Contemporary Treasures by Jingdezhen s National Masters from the Lamda Foundation. c. 18 Feb 2017 to the HK Heritage Museum on the Grand Weddings of the Qing Emperors d. 20 Nov 2016 BBQ gathering e. 10 Dec 2016 Christmas Party f. 13 Feb 2017 Spring Dinner ii. Our members are engaged to be speakers of our regular monthly Business Dinner in which members from different industries would share their working experience with members and guests for experience sharing. This is good for our team building. a. 26 July 2016 our member Dr Stacey Lam, eye specialist talked on Eye Diseases b. 23 Aug 2016 our member Ms Margaret Leung talked on her social enterprise Les Beatitudes on Man s Necktie Can Rebuild Human Ties c. 27 Sept 2016 our member Ms Doreen Kong, partner of Reed Smith Richards Butler talked on Pseudo Political Asylum Issue in Hong Kong d. 18 Oct 2016 our ex-member, Ms Theresa Yiu talked on My Brand Building Dream e. 26 June 2017 our member Dr Joyce Chang, Head of Social Work Department, Shue Yan University talked on What the Catholic Church had done in women empowerment in Hong Kong for 100 years 1900 to 2000 f. 25 July 2017 our member Ms Grace Kwok, Allied Sustainability & Environmental Consultants Group Chairman talked on Greening the City the Role of an Environmental Consultant iii.
