Marion Reeves of the Zonta Club of Brampton- Caledon served as the keynote speaker with a presentation on Work Life Balance. Mary Lou Ardino, Kerry Peek, Ann Detzler, Nancy Peacock, Judy Labiak and Gina Orsini attended the April 8 th workshop in St. Catharines. 2 2 Zonta is AWESOME With April being the last month for our business meetings and looking forward to celebrating this year at the Annual Awards Night, members should be proud of their accomplishments this year. In keeping with the AWESOME campaign and in support of the United Nations Sustainable Goal 5 (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls), the Club will continue to work to address equality issues that women and young girls face in their everyday lives. Members attending the March and April meetings were engaged in the planning process for the next year, identifying ways in which we can continue in these efforts. Our success is built on the continued collaboration of its members and committees working toward the Zonta mission. Although our experiences vary, are skills are diverse, and we may have differences in approach, it are those aspects that may be our greatest strength and can result in our greatest achievements. Regards, Nancy Where It all Began Planning for 2019 District Conference. Through the leadership of Marian de Forest along with a group of businesswomen Zonta was founded in Buffalo, NY in In the near future, Zonta will be celebrating its centennial anniversary. Plans are underway and as part of the celebration, Buffalo will be hosting a district conference in September The first planning meeting was held on April 8 with four members of the Cheektowaga Lancaster Club attending. It s not too late to get involved and be part of the planning process. The next meeting is May 6th at 9:30 AM, at Hauptman-Woodward Institute (700 Ellicott Street, Buffalo, NY,) If interested in joining, please contact Nancy Peacock.

3 3 Planning the Direction for Communications Goals for Program Service Advocacy Membership ZONTA Looking forward to the fiscal year and the continued vitality of the club, members came together during March and April meetings to discuss how the Club can be most effective in carrying out Zonta s mission to empower women through service and advocacy. After a lively discussion on membership in March, the focus of the April meeting was on service and advocacy. Prior to the April meeting, members were provided a worksheet for their use in identifying members thoughts and recommendations on how they could be the most effective in working toward Zonta s mission, looking at possible service and advocacy projects, as well as funding raising activities and providing scholarship and grant awards. These meetings were only the beginning of developing our strategic plan and goals for the upcoming year. The Membership Committee is continuing to refine the results of the March meeting and Saturday brunch and will be looking at the development of a mentoring plan. The issues and recommendations identified at the April meeting will be forwarded to the Board for further refinement at their May meeting and then presented back to the membership. If you were not available at these meetings and would like to present thoughts and recommendations on moving forward in the upcoming year, please forward your comments prior to the May 11 Board meeting.

4 More Updates 4 Dues: Members due are payable by May 1, Judy is out of town until June. Therefore, please make your check payable to Zonta Cheektowaga Lancaster in the amount of $150 and send to Nancy Peacock, 42 W. Home Rd., Bowmansville, NY If you are not planning on continuing your membership, please send an to Nancy of your intention no later than May 1. All members need to go into the website and update for future access. Committee Reports It s that time of year. Year end committee reports are due from all Committee Chairs. Please submit your accomplishment report to the President for incorporation into a final Club year end report. The annual awards celebration will take place in its place. The celebration takes place on May 18 at the Millennium Hotel. Scholarship winners and grant recipients will be recognized as part of the evening. In preparing for this night, an Awards Committee has been formed to plan the event. Kerry Peek has volunteered to chair the committee. At the April meeting, several members also volunteered to be on the committee. However, if you were not at the meeting and would like to be part of the committee, please contact Kerry for more details. Hopefully, you can join us for this night, since it reflects all the hard work and efforts of the members that took place during the year. June 9 Family Justice Center Breakfast Buffalo Convention center June 16 & 17 Garage Sale District 4 Conference Niagara Falls, Canada 9/21-24, 2017 Around Town Take a look at some of the opportunities around town that you may be interested in participating. Enhance your skills, join others in supporting women in our community, network with others or maybe just get together for a social outing and the proceeds are used to benefit women and girls.
