Training Experience 2012 Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Research Experience Post-Undergraduate Paid Research Assistant: Oklahoma State University, Center for Family Resilience Faculty Advisor: Joe Grywacz Ph.D Assisted in the Tulsa 101 family research study, aimed to understand the individual, familial, and environmental factors associated with adolescent's sleep, physical activity, and dietary quality. Responsibilities included coding adolescent and parent discussions to identify the quality of the relationship and communication.

3 Post-Undergraduate Research Assistant: Oklahoma State University, Center for Family Resilience Principal Investigator: Martha Zapata Roblyer, M.A. Faculty Advisor: Joe Grywacz Ph.D. Assisted a graduate student in a research study aimed to explore the effects of immigration status and deportation experiences on the lives of Hispanic immigrant families and youth. Responsibilities included recruiting family dyads in the community and conducting interviews with Hispanic adolescents. Further responsibilities: coding, tagging, and analyzing interviews to identify themes, create matrix displays, and interpret results. Post-Undergraduate Research Assistant: University of Buenos Aires, School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology Principal Supervisor: Federico M. Daray M.D. Ph.D. Assisted in a systematic review over risk factors for suicide attempts and completed suicide among patients in Latin America and the Caribbean region, which was presented at the Asociación de ASLAUC Cuarto Congreso Latino Americano de Prevencíon del Suicidio. Responsibilities included assisting in the creation of a database for a two-year follow up research study and data management. Further responsibilities included scoring mental health surveys and analyzing preliminary data. Observed structured-diagnostic interviews administered to patients who had made a recent suicide attempt or were experiencing active suicidal ideation. Trained upcoming research assistants in data management and how to conduct research searches through search engines. I attended pharmacology classes and other psychiatric classes over specific mental disorders. Further activities included reading and presenting research articles related to suicidal behaviors to a group of psychiatric researchers. Undergraduate Paid Psychology Research Assistant: University of Arkansas, Intervention Science Laboratory Principle Supervisor: Matthew Feldner Ph.D, Title: Lab Manager Responsibilities included data checking, management, and data analyses. Further responsibilities included creating an electronic measures database, recording lab minutes, and training incoming research assistants in data entry, and other laboratory procedures. Undergraduate Psychology Research Assistant: University of Arkansas, Interpersonal Systems Research Laboratory Faculty Advisor: Anna Bridges Ph.D. I assisted in the Latino laboratory, which aims to understand and reduce health disparities among Latinos. Responsibilities included data collection, recruiting participants, data entry and management, literature research, and conducting research interviews with Spanish speaking women at a local community clinic. 4 Assisted a clinical graduate student with a multimodal investigation of reactivity among motor vehicle accident victims to see if alexithymia was a unique predictor of posttraumatic stress-related emotional reactivity relative to posttraumatic stress symptoms. Responsibilities included recruiting participants, phone screening with suicidal risk assessment, and SPSS data entry. Other responsibilities included being an active consumer of research by reading clinical research articles and choosing and reviewing research related articles to discuss in weekly lab meetings. 5 Mental Health Technician: 2011 Springwoods Behavioral Center Fayetteville, Arkansas Job Description: Served as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team as a paraprofessional under general supervision. I provided patient nursing care to patients in the adolescent unit, adult unit, and geriatric unit. Responsibilities included participation in the planning and implementing of individual patient treatment plans, conducting patient searches, record keeping, and conducting appropriate treatment groups. Additional work responsibilities included conducting one-on-one monitoring of adolescents at high risk for suicidal behavior or other aggressive behavior. Mental Health Technician: Jack C Montgomery VA Medical Center Muskogee, Oklahoma Student Career Experience Program Job Description: As a trained paraprofessional under general supervision, I provided psychiatric nursing care to patients of potential high-risk patient behaviors and helped maintain safety in a psychiatric setting. Responsibilities included conducting one-on-one monitoring of patients requiring close supervision, and 15-minute observation rounds. Other responsibilities included assistance in providing structured therapeutic activities and assistance in conducting daytime therapeutic groups.
