1 987 \ ATVBC NEWSLETTER Issue 39 1 ATVBC NEWSLETTER MAR 2017 Volume 6 Issue 39 NEW ON-LINE SIGN-UP FOR YOUR ATVBC MEMBERSHIP/CLUB For the past few months Greg Smith with the help of a couple of other ATVBC directors have been working on a new online membership sign up, as the old one that we got with the web site was too difficult to use and did not always work. So we looked at a number of online membership programs. We tried one of them and it didnt do what we were looking for so we moved on. The next one we tried was Membee membership management program and it is working for us. This new program will stream line our online membership sign ups and it is a lot user friendly. Some of you have already signed up using the new program and have had no problems. The new program will send renewal notices to you automatically. So to renew your club membership, all you need to do is click on the link in your and it will take you to the signup page, and then follow the instructions and you will be finished in two shakes of a dogs tail.
2 ATVBC NEWSLETTER Issue 39 2 PRESIDENTS BLOG by Moira Jaatteenmaki Since moving to the Island, we have experienced record weather record highs in August and September, nothing but rain October and November with only 5 days without precipitation, very cold in December and then record snowfalls in January and February. At times we could have sworn we were back in Revelstoke. However, unlike Revelstoke, all snow on the ground was gone within a week. However, its not really riding conditions yet so lets hope that you are all thinking, planning and making sure your machine is in tip top shape for a summer of riding. The Board of Directors is busy getting ready for the riding season and a top priority is the revamp of our web site. Greg Smith is working with a company called Membee to totally revise our membership procedures and once that is complete a new forum will be added. After that a few more tweaks and our web site will be user friendly in so many ways. Right now this is a busy time for Kim Smith our Land and Environment/General Manager. She has just hosted our booth at the recent Trade Show in Abbotsford, finalized registration packages for the F2F in Princeton as well as putting the agenda together. The F2F is going to be an event to remember and the cooperation and generosity of the local club, businesses and individuals of Princeton is exceptional. Kim has a very full report in this Newsletter about these and other items so I will leave all those items to her. Registration for the AGM/JAMBOREE is now posted on the website also on Page 15 and the first campground is filling up very quickly. This also promises to be an event to remember so make your plans now and remember to bring your gold rush costume. Plans are also well under way for the Poker Ride in Merritt as Bob Stewart has this well in hand. There is a lot of planning required for this event re permits and other items. There are new ideas this year and events so plan on attending. Raffle tickets are available now so make sure your club takes advantage of the rebate of $10/book of tickets sold. Not too early to be thinking to 2018 and where the Poker Ride and will be held. Interested? Then please contact me for further information. That is all from me this month as there is a lot of information in this Newsletter and they need the space! Moira : president@atvbc.ca moira@atvbc.ca Corporate Sponsors:
3 987 ATVBC NEWSLETTER Issue 39 3 Ready, Set, Go! We are busy getting ready for the 2017 season with lots of meetings, events, and initiatives planned including high level speakers and topics of interest that affect riders throughout BC. This is shaping up to be one of our best seasons yet! We recently hosted a booth at the BC Sportsmen Show at the TRADEX in Abbotsford, which was a success once again this year, members from the Lower Mainland ATV Club, Right Nuts ATV Club and the Valley Trail Riders ATV Club were all on hand over the course of the weekend, and provided fantastic support for the booth while sharing information about their clubs and local riding areas. We also had terrific support from Vancouver Island as Mike Lees and Allen Sampson travelled over from the Cowichan Valley ATV Club. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers for sharing your knowledge and passion for our sport! This year we did a bonus Win A Jersey free draw at the booth and the lucky winner was Danielle Walker from Maple Ridge congratulations Danielle! Next we look forward to the Spring F2F Meeting happening on April 22nd in Princeton. This is a fantastic opportunity for the clubs to meet and network, as our strength is in our numbers and working together, to allow everyone to benefit from each others wisdom and experience. Find out what works for other clubs, and how they achieve their many accomplishments. With subject matter experts delivering presentations on the hot topics of the day, and social events to welcome and nourish you, this is an event you dont want to miss! The Princeton ATV and Similkameen Valley Riders ATV Clubs are gracious hosts, and have an outstanding weekend planned with good food, great conversation and amazing prizes. We look forward to seeing you there! This season we are introducing Club Features in our monthly newsletter, and will feature an update from our various clubs each month, therefore if you would like to share an update on your region, trails projects, or any issues you would like highlighted please submit articles and photos to kim@atvbc.ca For our first features we have updates from Princeton ATV Club and the Alberni Valley Hill Climbers (see page 8-10). We also have an update from the Private Lands Access Com-mittee formed by the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (see page 13). In April our clubs along the KVR region will be meeting with Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) to discuss how motorized use best fits into their overall rail trail tourism plan, and how ATV touring and destination riding is becoming a profitable industry with substantial benefits for rural communities. We are also pleased to continue our involvement with the Backcountry Powersports Coalition, and recently met with government to discuss the ORV Trail Fund (generated from ORV registration fees paid to ICBC) which is proposed to be administered this Fall, for the construction and maintenance of ORV trails, and for the support and promotion of safe and responsible use of ORVs. As you can see we are off to the start of an exciting year! Heres to a safe and successful season of good riding with good friends! Kim Smith General Manager Land & Environment Manager

18 ATVBC NEWSLETTER Issue Lloyd Kilback June 26 th, 2016 On behalf of the BV Quad Riders and Lloyds family and friends. I would like to thank everyone for making an effort to come out and spend the day in memory of Lloyd Kilback. This Rec Site and many of the improvements in the Telkwa Pass are all a result of Lloyds efforts and determination to make the BV Quad Riders a recognized Recreational User Group in the Bulkley Valley. Lloyd was a very active member of our club and willing donated much of his time to our club activities. It would take considerable effort to get more donations from the community for a Poker Ride event than Lloyd; he had a special knack for getting the dealers to contribute. He also participated in the building of the bridges on our Moricetown / Suskwa Trail, and many other work bees. Lloyd also represented the club along with Ed Hincheliffe for R.A.M.P (Resource Action Management Plan). Lloyd was well liked and respected by all members of our club and committee members who also sat in on these negotiations. Lloyd was not afraid to speak his mind and get things done, saying Lloyd was soft spoken would be a grave understatement. On more than one occasion when Lloyd and Ed would give the club an update on R.A.M.P you could see him getting fired up about something that wasnt going well with the committee and hed say O god dont get me started Thanks to our Club Volunteers and our partners at Recreational Sites and Trails BC we can present to you today this kiosk and plaque in honor of Lloyd and all his efforts in making this trail possible. It will be read by everyone who visit this site and ride the Pass and his efforts will not be forgotten.
