4 Feeding Tips Suggested feeding rates should be used as a guide only The type of feed and quantity individual horses require will depend on the quality of your pasture/hay, stage of training, intensity of exercise, body condition and metabolism of your horse Introduce new feeds into your horse s ration gradually over a period of 1-2 weeks Ensure horses always have access to clean, fresh water Feed a minimum of 1% of your horse s body weight (BW) daily as roughage If feeding over 0.5kg/100kg BW per day, divide the feeds into two or more smaller feeds Rice is also digested early in the horses system, so the risk of problems caused by hind gut fermentation - excitability, friskiness, tying up, colic or lactic acidosis, is significantly reduced. This is based on a standard 3kg total daily ration for a 500kg Horse. Calcium to Phosphorus ratio Rice bran pellets are naturally lower in calcium and higher in phosphorus. Supplementary calcium may be required to balance the calcium to phosphorus ratio. CopRice Rice Bran pellets are not a complete feed. They are designed to be fed in conjunction with other ration ingredients as well as roughage such as hay, chaff and pasture. These feeding rates are intended as a guide only. The quantity individual horses require will depend on the quality of your pasture/hay, stage of training, intensity of exercise, body condition and metabolism of your horse.
