Whelan MD* ISAKOS SPONSORED FACULTY: * * * *ISAKOS Member COURSE DESCRIPTION The aim of the course is to provide a greater understanding of lower limb alignment and how this may be altered to improve patient function for a variety of knee conditions from cartilage and meniscal injury, to ligament deficiency and finally osteoarthritis. The course will demystify the technique of realignment osteotomy, providing attendees with a clear rationale and practical treatment algorithm to address simple and complex knee pathologies. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to: Describe the indications and surgical techniques for realignment osteotomy of the knee, including proximal tibia, distal femur and patellofemoral Describe the indications and surgical techniques for biplanar, coronal and sagittal plane osteotomies to treat ligament instability (e.g. ACL, PCL, MCL, posterolateral corner) Describe the pre-operative planning of deformity correction pertaining to the knee WHAT MAKES THIS COURSE UNIQUE? Small faculty to participant ratio Four hours of surgical skills lab instruction Renown national and international faculty Modern learning environment WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Practicing orthopaedic surgeons with a desire to learn or reinforce knowledge and surgical skills related to knee osteotomies Practicing orthopaedic surgeons with an interest in treatment of arthritic knee disorders in the young and active patient Individuals with basic to intermediate knee arthroscopic and open knee surgical skills Orthopaedic surgeons with an interest in treating patients with chronic knee ligament injuries, specifically, when to intervene with a bony procedure vs. soft tissue only Orthopaedic surgeons with an interest in increasing their knowledge of when to treat aging patients requiring articular cartilage resurfacing procedures HOUSING A block of rooms has been reserved at Rosemont Hampton Inn & Suites (adjacent to the OLC Education and Conference Center ) at a group rate of $139. Reservations may be made by calling (847) and asking for the AOSSM Osteotomies Course room block. You can also book directly online at sportsmed.org. The reservation deadline is March 13, Reservations after this date may be at a higher rate. Attendees are encouraged to book early. 1

CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CREDIT The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
