2 Professional Information 1- Overall Aims of Course Pediatric Course Provides Students with: Aim 1 Basic knowledge of normal and abnormal growth and development (physical, physiologic, psychosocial), and its clinical application from birth through adolescence. Aim 2 Ability to provide basic health care for individuals in the Pediatric age group (neonates, infants, children and adolescents). Aim 3 Appropriate background covering the common and important Pediatric emergencies and diseases. Aim 4 Acquisition, developing and application of appropriate professional attitudes, communication and problem solving skills. 2- Intended Learning Outcomes of Course (ILOs) A. Recall of Knowledge and Understanding: By the end of the course, students will be able to: a1 a2 a3 Course ILO Describe normal growth and development during infancy, childhood and adolescence. Describe causes and pathogenesis of the most important neonatal, pediatric and adolescent problems. 3 a4 Describe the clinical symptoms and signs of the most important neonatal, pediatric and adolescent problems. A7 a5 Enumerate relevant differential diagnosis. Determine the nutritional requirements and the most common nutritional disorders affecting infants and children and adolescents and describe appropriate management for disorders. Cite the management priorities for different neonatal, pediatric and adolescent emergencies according to protocols and guidelines. Describe the clinical symptoms and signs of the most important neonatal, pediatric and adolescent problems. Identify treatment plans for the most important neonatal, pediatric and adolescent problems according to protocols and guidelines. Describe the indications, contraindications, administration and precautions of the immunizations necessary for infants and children according to the national schedule and the clinical condition of the child and situational prioritization. Describe appropriate measures for health promotion as well as prevention of common community health problems (communicable such as GE, typhoid, cholera, and noncommunicable such as iron deficiency, lead poisoning, rheumatic fever, asthma, chronic renal failure, etc.. Recognize ethical and medico-legal aspects of neonatal, pediatric and adolescent practice. Outline diagnosis, prevention and management of medical errors and iatrogenic illness. Generate and refine a prioritized differential diagnosis for a clinical finding or set of findings Integrate, analyze and evaluate information objectively while recognizing its limitations.
