3 What is a Translational Research Community (TRC)? From the grant A TRC is a group of investigators from multiple disciplines and departments who share a common approach to advancing population health. The goal of these communities is to improve the quality, innovation, and impact of the translational products created by researchers in their area.the broad goal is to utilize the expertise within the TRCs to create the best environment for successful translational science that cuts across existing disciplines, departments, and schools. Community will be more successful than individual researchers to create the best translational research environment, working across multiple departments, schools Spans the translational pathway from basic discovery to applied implementation 3

5 Mission of the TRCs Improve the quality, innovation and impact of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) translational research Goal for Researchers Increase the value of their research, their perception of their ability to successfully translate and their career satisfaction Goal for Institution Utilize the community of experts to assist ICTR and university leadership in prioritizing and creating the best research environment for successful translational research
6 How will the TRCs accomplish the mission Provide translational symposiums, seminars, webinars, courses Educate about available ICTR resources o Biostatistics, Clinical Research Units (CRUs), ICTR Studio, Connection Request, Drug and Device Resource Service (DDRS), Translation Sciences Core Qualitative methodologies core, etc Connect interested faculty to stakeholders in the community, mentors-in-residence (MIR) / external investors Pilot project funding
7 Each TRCs has upcoming symposium Drug/Biologic/Vaccine/Device Development July 9 th ; Focus on drug/devise combinations and therapeutic delivery Biomarkers and Diagnostic Tests July 12 th ; Focus on secondary data analysis, specifically cardiac, diabetes, and kidney biomarkers Behavioral, Social and Systems Interventions September, TBD; Focus on Integrating Research into the Health System
