2 Dissertation Research Title: Mismatch of document relatedness judgments between humans and latent semantic analysis (LSA) Advisor: Dr. Eric Ruthruff & Dr. Timothy Goldsmith, University of New Mexico Built a human model of paragraph relatedness judgment based on psychological theories (Tversky s contrast model) and quantitative analysis of human data Tested the human model through on-line / on-site experiments Modified a computational linguistic model, Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), based on the human model Data Mining Project of FAA data PI: Dr. Timothy Goldsmith, University of New Mexico Analyzed large-scale structured/unstructured data (70,000+ aviation safety documents provided by NASA) Familiar with large-data manipulation, and various weighting schemes For dimension reduction, used the Singular Value Decomposition (a generalized version of the principle component analysis) For document classification, used k-means clustering and machine learning algorithms Initial data handling was made through MS Access, and the main analysis and userinterface design were made using Matlab Facial Information Processing Project with Dr. Eric Ruthruff, University of New Mexico Leading investigator of experiments examining various human facial processes First author of two peer-reviewed journal articles Obtained skills including data-based hypothesis development and testing Able to write syntax for efficient data analysis using Matlab, C, and Excel that executes repeated data analyses with various parameters Human Visual Attention Project with Dr. Eric Ruthruff, University of New Mexico Designed experiments examining movement of human visual attention Author of two peer-reviewed journal articles Experimental design (using E-Prime) and data analysis (SPSS, SAS, and R) Brain-Based Psychology Project 2006 with Dr. Yangseok Cho, Korea University Designed fmri study for investigating cognitive control (ROI: ACC) National Standard of Korean Color Naming Project PI: Dr. Mahn Young Lee, Korea University Investigated color naming and color word usage in Korean based on human experiments National standard of Korean color naming system has been updated based on this project A study on the Relationship Between Perceived Lightness and Blackness-Whiteness of Color Page 2 of 8
